I just use the standard type of little red eating apples, whatever happens to be hanging around the house at the time. Usually I buy "Gala" or "Red Delicious" or "Fuji" apples. I'm not sure what varieties of aplles there are in the States
I always using baking paper when I bake so I can be sure of easily getting what I've cooked out of the tin.
I love apples in so many desserts, including apple crisp, pie and a pudding my mother use to make. At one time, I came across the recipe for the pudding, but never the recipe for the sauce. The pudding really needs the sauce.
Self-raising flour isn't available here, but guess I'll just add some baking-powder. Yeah self-raising is only flour with the raising agent already added. To convert plain flour to self raising flour add:
either 2 teaspoons of baking powder to one cup of plain flour
OR
add 1 teaspoon of bicarb of soda to one cup of plain flour

It is. We had it with hot custard as a desert.
The left over cake we warmed up in the microwave the next day prior to eating it
