All year, our choir director, Ulle, has been trying to tell us, "Sing lighter.  Sing more expressively.  Let the music breathe.  Make it move.  Don't sing notes, sing muuuuusic."  She probably gets tired of telling us, but it's easier said than done, especially when you don't quite know how to hear the difference.  I can hear the difference when ( Read more... )

Totally can empathize with you, especially since you know I have the same choir director at Holy Rosary. And yes, I can totally hear how heavy and stresses all the beats (it's not that every note is the same, but every pair seems to be) are in the first Youtube video - when one learns how to run through fast passages, it does tend to be overly structured. I'm having the same issues with Magnificat in G (Pachelbel) - we're trying to prepare it for August 15, but only two rehearsals left. :)
