We are getting our home refinanced, so we had to get an appraisal done.  We were all nervous because the market is weak, and houses similar to ours in our neighborhood are selling for very low prices, lower than what we paid for our house.  Well, apparently that has no effect on the theoretical value of our house.  The appraisal came back for over ( Read more... )

Hunh. If appraisals reflect some theoretical price, instead of what you're likely to get for the house, that explains why I keep hearing stories of owners asking for way too much and houses thus sitting on the market forever -- the owner is probably making the (not unreasonable) assumption that they should be able to sell the house for close to its appraised value.

I agree with him. Improvements are always relative to the previous state, and it's always the case that you won't recognize improvements without knowing the previous state. They still improve the value of the house (if only by removing things that were dragging down the value of the house). Y'all should be proud of yourselves. :-)

I agree with you. Light blue is a great color, but not for a dining room.
