Betty isn't sure what happened. She can't remember what happened prior to this ( Read more... )

It feels like waking up from an episode, as far as being lost and clueless goes. Where he is, where he's been, what's happened, are all questions swimming in his head as he opens his eyes in the rain. He's tired, soggy and unhappy, but that's nothing new. With a sigh he goes to stand, only to have his legs tie themselves up and he drops back to the ground with an oof that sounds more like a muffled woof.

He groans, another sound that is off and he closes his eyes, giving his head a shake, feeling his ears and jowls flap. He whines at the sensation and then with a worried look on his face, he turns his head to view the long, tan and lanky body which is apparently his now.

What? His ears pull forward in confusion as he carefully pulls himself back onto his long legs and spins slowly in place, almost a parody of chasing his tail as he tries to take in what could possibly have caused such an unpredictable situation ( ... )

Betty keeps lifting one front paw, then the other to try and keep them dry. But it's all for naught.

Another scent fills her nose as a large dog is coming towards her. Alarmed, she jumps back, yapping a warning.

Back off, or I'll...I'll do something drastic, I will! I'm not afraid of you!

Actually she was. Very afraid. That dog could probably eat her if he wanted to but she wasn't going down without a fight.

The little dog starts yapping and it takes Bruce a moment to realize it's probably because of his size. His ears drop back and somehow he manages to bring his head a little lower toward the ground.

He looks around, as if trying to convey that there isn't any other dry places to sit before hesitating and then flopping down next to the building, still out in the rain but tucking up against the cold brick as tight as he can, as if it might help block some of the rain.

It's not till he lays down that Betty realizes she's probably the one scaring him. Her barking cuts off with a curious whine. She sits for a moment before trotting around the corner to see if he's okay.

Coming up slowly to sniff him because it seems the right thing to do. Sort of a tentative hello.

Well, that's the risk with that, but if I bury it deep enough, it might help hide it better. Bruce looks around, and finally notices a uniquely shaped tree surrounded by a few bushes.

There. He trots over and looks around. He's mostly concealed at least in the brush and sets the burger well out of the way as he paws at the ground a couple times to make certain he can dig, and then goes at the soft earth in earnest.

She sits nearby, trying to ignore the fresh smell of dirt. Who knew it could smell so good? It made her paws itch so she laid down to try and keep herself in check. Setting her slim nose on her front paws with a sigh.

I wish I knew what happened to cause this. They could try to get back to Culver and try to get someone's attention. But that could be a tricky thing to do.

Huh? Bruce has managed a pretty deep hole by now and pokes his head out at Betty, barely able to hear her. His nose and paws are covered in dirt as he peeks out at her.

Who knows, with everything that's happened. We could have, dropped into a parallel reality, or turned into dogs, or swapped bodies... He shakes his head, not really liking the idea of a dog running around in his skin and sticks his head back in the hole to test how deep it is, his tail wagging behind him.

She pants, amused at him covered in dirt, half inside the hole. You digging to China?

Betty moves up behind him quick to give him a playful shove into the hole. And then bounds away, tail and tongue flapping in the breeze.

I know, but how else are we going to get inside? Bruce feels bad, but sometimes he had to do what he had to do. At least that action reveals Betty's injured paw. The fur matted slightly with a little blood and it catches Stan's attention immediately.

"Oh, well why didn't you two say so? Come on. Just behave yourselves, alright?" Stan leans over, Betty's small enough to pick up before he opens the door for Bruce and himself.

Betty had almost forgotten about her paw, it had gone numb for awhile now. She gets up quickly as Stan is leaning to pick her up, not sure how she feels about this. She tries not to wriggle as they're taken inside and upstairs to the small apartment Stan has up there. We're inside...he's carrying me, this is so weird.

Well, it's warm and dry. Bruce's dopey grin looks up at her from fairly close to eye-height with Stan carrying her. Now that they're indoors, he's starting to realize how thin his own coat is as he gets feeling back in his long legs.

Stan leads the way upstairs, and then puts her down just inside the kitchen, pulling out some bowls for water and food.

"Alright you two. Better not make a mess while I'm downstairs. I'll be right back."

Betty is resolved to be the perfect guest...er...pet. She sits immediately, quelling any impulses to run around and smell everything. She tries to say thank you, but it just comes out as barks and yips. Stan seems to understand though as she gets down to drink, rubbing her ears. And then he's gone.

Betty laps at the dish, grabbing at it with her paws at first to try and figure out how to drink like this. But eventually she gets the hang of it. So thirsty...
