I found an arrowhead on the beach a few days ago. It seemed to materialize out of nowhere, appearing on the sand next to my blanket. Astonishing. It must have been washed up during the heavy rains. It is beautiful, but I have no idea what it's made of. Could be jasper or some kind of mottled slate, perhaps. I need to get a good guide to look it up ( Read more... )

If you send me, or post, a good picture of the arrowhead, and the beach location, I can ask a friend of mine who might help with identification. If you like.

Thanks...that would be grand. I'll photograph it and send in the next day or so. My plan was to get a local arrowhead book (conn college has one that I know about, and there may be others) but if you know someone with expertise, that would likely be a LOT faster, even if they could just narrow the guesses a bit by identifying material, etc. I found it in Old Lyme, CT, but it may not be from the immediate area. This part of the coast was historically a summer fishing place for many tribes in the LI Sound area. I'll try my best to get some good daylit pix.
