This semester, i'm teaching my graduate level millinery class, and today my students presented their first round of projects--buckram forms!
Here are some of the highlights... (plus also a bonus pair of super-awesome Alexander McQueen-inspired platform shoes!)
Second-year grad Katie Keener made this beautiful 1815 embroidered silk bonnet!
Oblique front view of same.
At left, first-year grad
Emily Plonski's sweet pleated ribbon fascinator based on a vintage 1950s hat.
At right, undergraduate Alex Ruba's monocular feathered fascinator of red peacock eyes.
Emily also made this navy velveteen draped miniature pillbox before moving on to...
...a black satin Victorian riding hat!
I'm a particular fan of the triple-looped rear bow of dusty purple dupioni.
Second-year grad Erin Abbenante made this 1910 pleated-crown hat of embroidered taffeta with ruched chiffon underbrim decor.
PRC Costume Technician
Sam Kate Toney made this sweet 1920s sunbonnet. I love the microstripe tie-silk trim!
And, Katie Keener presented her final footwear project from a previous semester's class, these fabulous platforms inspired by
these Alexander McQueen ones from the spring/summer 2005 collection. Katie started with a pair of plain wedge platforms, and built out the intricate shapes here with a combination of two-part foam, paper clay, and Wonderflex thermoplastic.
