The great thing about doing theatre, is that it's not really you performing, it's the character. Lacey may not like getting up in front of people and being the center of attention, but Mabel loves it. And then Lacey gets the applause!
I haven't done theatre since high school, but I remember that a cast and crew formed the kind of community and team spirit that some people find by playing on sports teams. There's ego, yes, by the bucketload, but there's also a sense of everyone working toward a common goal, the best possible performance of a group activity.
I've been learning so much about the process of acting. I have been reading about it for years and trying to learn it that way, but there are things you can't fully absorb until you do it yourself. This is one of those for me, because I would have placed large sums of money on my not ever doing that, and certainly not enjoying it if I did!
You're right about the rapport. That's what I've been looking for all my life. The dynamic is a lot like that I remember from softball, and to an extent my time at work. A tight band of people working towards a common goal. It's such a great feeling.
