Writer's Block: Birthday Shout-out

None of them. I used to think they were the worst thing to happen to children's literature ever, but then Stephanie Meyer released her fucking anti-feminist abstinent-until-marriage mormon sparkly vampire books.

I was always more of a Roald Dahl/Shel Silverstein type of children's book reader...I'm down with the fractured world view. I was reading adult fiction by middle school. I understand that getting kids to read is a feat, and in that alone, Harry Potter was a good thing, but the story always seemed to me like a more detailed telling of the old Fairuza Balk/Tim Curry movie "The Worst Witch" albeit without the catchy song (anything could happen on Halloween...) Yeah, I'm a hater, but if Lia or Alice *had* to read either Twilight or Harry Potter, it would be Harry Potter, because at least it wouldn't be teaching them values that I so wholeheartedly disagree with.
