I STILL have water in my ear. I made myself an appointment to see the doctor on Thursday. My mom told me to lie down with a heating pad on my ear. I don't have a heating pad(the cats killed it a few years ago and I never got a new one). She also advised me to put some drops of warm oil in my ear. I'll do that one as a last resort as I'm not too ( Read more... )

I hope the trapped water doesn't cause an infection. I'll see if I can't find a solution for you.

This might help you. It's personal opinions, so pick and choose your methods. The general concensus seems to be see a doctor... an ear doctor. I hope your ear feels better!

Thanks! I think most of the water has drained while I slept. I got the heating pad and I could feel it coming out drop by drop. I was waiting for that satifying gush of warm water and release of pressure but I fell asleep. I have made an appointment with my doctor and I'll see what's going on with my crazy ear tomorrow. I had tubes in my ears when I was a kid(ahem, back in 1985...). Did you have those? I don't think they even do that anymore. Most of the pressure is gone and I can hear again and I think part of it is related to still being congested.

Did your cold ever go full blast or were you able to stifle it with Vitamin C??

I'm glad it finally drained. I've never heard of tubes in the ears, why did they do it? The only thing I've ever had wrong with my ear is a sudden earache/infection. I woke up at like 2 or 3 am (8th grade-ish) with a HORRIBLE ringing in one ear. I was ready to scream/cry/bash myself in the head, but being the middle of the night all I could do was bury my head in my blankets and wait for it to subside. When I woke up I couldn't hear out of my ear. That sucked.

I guess the Vit C chased the germies away cuz I'm not sick or showing symptoms anymore.

Yay! I'm glad the Vitamin C killed off the germs. Being sick sucks. I"m almost over it and I'm so excited.

They used to put tubes in the ears of children who got a lot of ear infections caused by water in the ears. It was a short surgery they did where the doctor cut a tiny hold in the ear(not sure exactly where, maybe the drum?),and put a tiny metal thing(tube)in the hole so the water could drain out. The hole would eventually heal and the tube would fall out. The thing they called the tube wasn't really a tube at all but looked exactly like a sewing machine bobbin only much smaller. I wish I would have saved one. The thing was that when you had tubes in your ears you could not get the inside of your ear wet so I had to wear wax ear plugs all the time and remember having to go back to the doctor a lot because I just jumped into the pool without thinking about it.

How scary to wake up in the middle of the night and have a horrible ringing in your ear! I think I would have screamed.
