I've lost the plot. The storyline is tangled up already and the only villain* I can think of wouldn't even be sentient. It was going to be about Ross Jenkins (Ross - I love Ross) but I couldn't think of a way to get him in my story and set it after series 4, so I created a brother for him. Except by doing that I'll need to write ~flashbacks~ and I

Okay, I'm not entirely sure what you're trying to do. Are you trying to write a story about Ross' brother tracking down the Doctor in order to try and come to terms with the reasons for his brother's death, and then using flashbacks to show the relationship between him and Ross and give Ross backstory? If that's the case, why not just start each chapter with a flashback or an event from earlier in their lives and then use the rest of the chapter to describe the different steps of the brother's mission? Using the 'memory', if you like, as incentive and motivation for how the character behaves? As long as you structure it carefully you should be okay.
...And that was zero help at all so feel free to ignore me, lol. I'm useless, sorry. :P

Dammit, awesome story you just suggested. That could make a beautifully bittersweet story. But, no, this is more of an adventure story with Ross as a background character. And the Doctor becomes the stalker. The theme is memories though which is where Ross comes into it - in a convoluted way - because there's this Memory Machine (working title, haha) which is causing havoc with certain people who were associated with it, one being Ross.
Actually, you were a real help because, by writing it out like that, it is so much clearer in my mind now. Oh! And I've had a brainwave! Thank you! :D

Yay for brainwaves! Good luck!

I'm getting to that point where I want to quit again. When I signed up for this I told myself this would NOT be another in a long line of challenges that I've flaked out on. But I have just over a month now to write 20k and I don't know how I'm going to do it.
All I can say is that I hope yours is going better than mine!
*panics some more*

Oh no! Is it going better now? How's the plan then? Changed it? Sticking resolutely to it? If it's any consolation at all, mine is still at about the same word count as before. It's hard work.
But I don't want you to give up just yet. Don't panic!Think: what would Arthur Dent do?
Yeah, he'd probably panic.
So be better than Arthur Dent. I have faith in you, comrade. x
