as for buddhism, I just purchased Happiness: A Guide to Developing Life's Most Important Skill by Ricard. I read his other book (The Monk and the Philosopher) and his story is rather interesting. He comes from a more intellectual/analytical perspective, which is likely due to his science background (he came to Buddhism while a PhD candidate in biology). I suspect his discussion would be better for me than most the books found in the self help section in B&N. ;)
