♛ in depth
Personality:
Canon Background: All his life, Tsugiri has been waging a battle against demons called 'Alichino.' They are elegant shapeshifters who grant any wish your heart desires...and steal your soul as payment. They killed his mother, and Tsugiri himself nearly died because of them as a child. On death's door, a warrior named Ryoko and Ryoko's contracted Alichino, Myobi, found him. His memories had to be sealed away, and with a blank slate, he was given into the care of Ryoko's most trusted friend Enju.

Enju became Tsugiri's parent, and likely, the only person the boy really trusted. Then, after an encounter with an Alichino stirred up his long-forgotten memories and Myobi restored them to him in full, Enju was kidnapped by an Alichino named Matsurika, on the orders of Roshoki, a very powerful Alichino. So Tsugiri and Ryoko set off on a journey to rescue Enju. Along the way, they killed Matsurika, fulfilling the terms of Ryoko's contract with Myobi and ending the contract.

AU Background: Tsugiri's mother came from an upper-class family in Alexandria, on the continent of Deningrad. She met, by chance, a penniless, drifting history student. The two fell in love and eloped, and roughly nine months after Tsugiri was born. His father disappeared when he was barely two (his mother insisted his father had died, but it's entirely possible he simply left her and she was too proud to admit it, even to her son). Tsugiri spent the majority of his early childhood alone with his mother, drifting from place to place on account of the strange accidents that would happen wherever they settled. It was during their stay on El when Tsugiri was about four that he met Hyura, the older boy who would become Tsugiri's best friend.

Hyura had stepped up one day to defend Tsugiri from a group of local children who were bullying him, and from that day on, the two were inseperable, in the sense that Tsugiri wouldn't leave Hyura's side. But Hyura never gave any indication of minding, and in fact, took Tsugiri under his wing caring for him like an older brother would. Keeping him entertained and out of trouble, and filling his head with stories of floating islands and foreign cities. It was a period of peace, happiness, and stability for Tsugiri that lasted roughly a year and a half- until Tsugiri's mother died of an illness, and he was shipped off to live with his grandparents in Alexandria. Because his father had been a man they considered inferior to themselves and not good enough for their daughter, and because they held Tsugiri and the stress of raising him alone to be the cause of their daughter's death, they abused the boy mentally and emotionally, making him believe he was worthless and pretending to the world at large that he didn't exist, to the point of putting him in the basement like a misbehaving dog whenever they had company. He was not, however, physically abused or molested by his grandparents. The servants, however, would sometimes cuff him or kick him to take out their frustration. Finally, the child climbed out the basement window and ran away.

Tsugiri was found by a pair of travelers passing through the area, a man named Ryoko and his companion Myoubi, and, after talks with the Kusabis, the two took Tsugiri to live with Enju, an old friend of Ryoko's who lived in Moonflow. Over time, the three became an odd sort-of adopted family for Tsugiri: Enju took over the roles of both mother and father by turns, Myoubi became like a sister, switching between a teasing elder and bratty younger, and Ryoko became "the aloof old uncle who acts like he doesn't care but still spoils the child rotten." And Tsugiri was a pretty happy kid, until his powers began to manifest at the age of thirteen, with the onset of puberty. He feared his powers, connecting them mentally with the accidents that had gotten his mother killed, and tried to suppress them, only to have them blow up marvelously in his face, quite literally: a gas leak and a spark in the kitchen sent the whole house up in flames (though luckily, all four made it out safely).

A letter inviting Tsugiri to Estrasia Academy arrived on his fourteenth birthday. With Enju's blessing, he accepted and went. After a full year, he no longer feared his powers so intensely, and was willing to experiment with them, and had some measure of control: he could, with some effort, perform small tricks. But not more than one or two in one sitting, and not with objects much larger than a salt shaker. He's now entering his second year, looking to improve his control.

Appearance: Tsugiri is an incredibly beautiful boy (and also incredibly androgynous- in volume 2, Yui accused him of being a pretty girl dressed up in boys' clothes), with pale skin, pale blue eyes, and silver hair, which is cut into chin-length bangs at the front and gets shorter in the back. His clothing is typically a mixture of "punk" gothic and Elegant Gothic Aristocrat, in blacks, grays, blues, greens, and other earth tones.

Here's a picture of him.
