Are you kidding?! :D Singleness is a HUGE blessing! So is marriage - but they're so different. And think of the opportunities for outside service, the time you have, that won't be available when you have a husband and children.

I am so looking foward to getting married, too. But I've seen and learned not only to be content and thankful, but to enjoy and fully delight in this time.

It is. Neither one can be negated for it's potential to serve God. Why not delight in a gift from God? :)

:) Thanks, Elizabeth. I do hope, so badly, to be married...but every day is a blessing and God is preparing me for whatever future awaits! :)

Being single is really quite easy for me. There are so few Eastern Orthodox women around my age in western Pennsylvania that it isn't much of a challenge. The real challenge comes with trying not to become overly sarcastic, as I know several persons in my position, including minor (below the rank of deacon) clergymen, for whom it is a very sore point. For Orthodox clergy, their wives have to be Orthodox, and the man in question has to be married before becoming a deacon. Otherwise, he just remains celibate or becomes a monastic. All bishops as a rule are monastics (or supposed to be). Sometimes, they are parish preists, like the one I know on the South Side.
