Checking my closet right now, I can see that despite my deliberate and pointed neglect, I still have two of the facecloths left that my mother and her husband gave to me on my 18th Christmas. I keep them because I hate the thought of wasting something useful -- so I wait until I can find a good excuse to throw them out ( Read more... )

Your mother and my mother should get together and go bowling.

People in my family are very competitive. ;-) Could your mom take the heat?

(Good to hear from you, by the way. What you're doing is very hard and very brave.)

Reading this makes me want to hug you.

Thank you for sharing your honest feelings about your Mom.

I want to write more, but I think it's better I save it for when we talk.

I am glad you are participating in the contest- I have missed your writing, both fiction and personal!

Love you, Jacques.

Thanks, Marion. This time, I thought I'd write for myself and see if anyone else wanted to come along for the share.

I appreciate you reading it.

I'm glad you did. The personal entries are powerful in the feelings and thoughts shared and are interesting to read as they give the reader a chance to get to know the author.

I'm proud of you for doing this!

Absolutely! That's why I'll be eliminated this week. ;-)

Really. I just wrote for myself. If anyone likes it or got something from reading it, I'm glad.

So far, yeah. I mean, we'll go out to breakfast or something, but when it really counts, or she needs to make some kind of sacrifice on her side, it's not there.

Even little things. Like when I was big on photography. I came over for an entire day once, and I wanted to show her some of the photos I'd taken, but she didn't have time, she said. Same thing when I began building websites -- she had no time to look at them. I wanted to share things I was proud of, you know?

Fortunately, I have one example of what not to do, and one of what I _should_ do. My grandparents are stellar, so I can learn from mistakes as well as things done right.

My fiancee has a grandmother that is manipulative as well -- it can be extremely toxic for the whole family.

I'm sorry I can't help you there -- I'm surprised that you kinda put up with your mother for so long! Most of my siblings (and me) have already stopped talking to my mother. =\

Why have you done that?

She is the very essence of cynism and negativity =\ kind of like poison, really

:-) And you're pretty much the opposite, fortunately.
