At least you know when to ask why... I sit in classes and never think to ask why/what/how until well after the fact. One of my teachers this week actually asked me if I needed to ask any questions after a critique session! I was like: "um, no--but I feel like I might need to?" (how grade-school is that response?! lol.)
I'm having trouble with the whole staying focused/studying/feeling like I'm actually "getting it" this semester. Ugh. I swear spring semesters are worse than fall...
I totally know how you feel about asking "why" long after the fact...eveyrone is always going to office hours with all these questions about material and I'm always like "Uh....?" and feel like an idiot. All these people seem so totally okay with learning this junk in detail, when I can barely make myself crack a book.
Good luck to you, too! We'll make it, one way or another. :)
*hugs* Sounds like grad school is really rough. I know undergrad is. I completely understand the feeling of not being able to keep your head about water and feel like you are foundering this semester. I would be just counting the days until the boy got there.
