The Separation of Life and Blog

So I'm back from Spring Break after a really nice ten days with The Boy where I mostly messed around and read the Martha Stewart "Weddings" book cover to cover. I had a truly harrowing plane ride home, where an hour delay in Grand Rapids due to thunderstorms in Chicago made me nearly miss my flight. I sprinted up to the gate as they were literally ( Read more... )

Sadly, I'm not really anonymous because of my website, and between that and my job, and feeling wierd about not knowing who was viewing it, and it being easier to figure out who I am from it...friends locking seemed the thing to do! It'd be different if I were more anonymous I think! :-)

It's bizarre when LJ and real life collide! I guess I've been lucky so far to be as anonymous as I am. But friends locking may definitely be in my future...somehow the idea of retroactively friends locking all my past entries is a daunting task.

definitely hear you on the anonymity thing. none of my RL friends or family know about mine, either. I don't want to write to an audience or not to be able to write about things (or people) that are going on in life that are bugging me.

glad you landed safely! and I can't wait to hear more fabulous wedding plans. (and, truth be told, to hear you grumble about school because it's nice to know I'm not the only one!)

I totally know what you mean about writing to an audience. That's the number one reason I haven't told my family...I can just hear my mother editing my entries post-publication. Gah.

It's not that I don't want to know LJ people outside of LJ, it's just the whole "separate realms" thing...like those situations when you were little where friends from school met your friends from camp....SO WEIRD AND AWKWARD. Neither one really gets the other.

Wedding related gabbing is forthcoming. :)

I know exactly how you feel! Its only been recently (like in the past 6 months or so) that I have even really let Nate or my mom know about my lj. And I still certainly dont let them read it! I dont really have anything to hide, but then again, LJ seems so personal in a way. And like you, I like having it separated from the everyday drama.
And goodness! Im glad you are ok! What a scary plane trip!

Yeah, I almost want to tell my family I have one, but omit the user name...but I'm afraid that'll just open a can of worms. It's neat that you've been able to share and have those closest to you be supportive and respect your personal space. :)
