Too Fast, Too Furious

The year was 1994. My Dad and I had come to Atlanta, but I can't quite remember what for. We had just gotten off the Connector onto Williams St. and were sitting at the first light, waiting for it to turn green. From our right, proceeding along the crossing street, was one of the most beautiful cars that I had ever beheld -- a 1995 BMW M3.

I know I don't have to tell you this, but you were very fortunate to make it out of that accident in the condition that you did. Those pictures are scary-looking.

I almost lost it when I went to get some things out of the car later that weekend and saw it in person. The pictures don't do it justice, to be quite frank.

I am very fortunate.

Did that accident cause you to be so appreciative of your family and friends? Or have you always been that way?

I have been that way since about my JR year of high school, actually. But it made me even moreso. That, coupled with losing so many friends of my own, made me realize how fleeting life can be and how quickly it can be ripped from us.

You don't know when the last time that you're going to see someone will be, so you should always make sure they know that you love/appreciate them.

Those pictures do look like a fatality accident. Scary stuff. You were incredibly lucky. A few years ago my cousin was in a car wreck where he was thrown from the vehicle and hit a tree head first. He amazed the doctors and everyone involved by surviving. Its the little twists of fate like that which really make you appreciate what you have.

Perhaps one day you'll find another gem like your first M3. Or maybe even a totally different but equally fabulous car to make yours.

You're a glass-is-half-full kinda girl, aren't you, Miss Halie? Don't ever change!

Fortunately, I was wearing my seatbelt, or else I'd have been thrown around and suffered more injuries.

Hmm...I guess I am. Even though it doesn't feel like it sometimes.

Yeah, Brandon wasn't wearing a seatbelt. You can bet he wears one now though.

Yeah, it doesn't always work out that you can maintain such optimism, but you seem to be mostly optimistic... mostly.

My brother started wearing his seatbelt (thank God) after we lost a friend in a wreck where she would've lived if she'd been wearing a seatbelt.

Car guys are kind of scary.

"because I believe any good relationship is hands-on" cheesy

I always think those pictures are kind of cool in a way...like if that happened on TV to some stranger, I'd be in awe.

I'm a car-guy, through and through.

Yeah, it was cheesy, but it's true. I think it's good to have an intimate knowledge of the workings of your car -- it could save you on the open interstate someday, ya know?

I'm in awe, even though it was me.

I think you're a border-line car guy. You get a little too excited and probably still make bad choices about reckless driving even after the accident...but to my recollection, you don't own a bunch of t-shirts/hats/key chains about cars...you don't have a screen name like AaronBMW2fast...you can talk about other things...

I don't think you have to be a NASCAR-type to be a "car guy." I also don't think you have to be single-mindedly devoted to cars to be a "car guy."

Zut Alors!!! (this translates loosely to Well Damn or maybe Damn Then.)

How on earth did you extract yourself from that? Is a Ford Explorer an SUV?

I don't know how I got out of there, because I was blacked out during that time.

Yeah, an Explorer is an SUV. It's a fairly substantial vehicle, especially when compared to a smaller, low-sitting car.
