Kimi ga koi ni midareru act 2 summary

I didn't really know where to put this - which is why I decided to dump it here (where pretty much no one is ever going to read it lol) for the time being.

This chapter starts maybe some days after Kijima’s surprise visit to Ichikawa. Kijima is trying to contact him but the woman from Sonshou Koizumi (Rinko, if I remember correctly) only informs him that Ichikawa isn't at work because he was feeling sick these last few days. Kijima thinks that these days he wasn't able to contact Ichikawa must be because… well, seeing his reaction (getting all flustered) back then it’s obvious that it’s that reason. Meaning: Ichikawa’s got a crush on him =D Which Kijima thinks of as kinda annoying (seeing that Ichikawa is someone he only intends to work together with). He doesn’t want to make use of Ichikawa’s feelings but he also doesn’t want to disappoint him (might influence the chance of him designing another kimono, after all >.>)

So what to do? How to meet Ichikawa again? Right - just get the son of the company’s president (=Reiichirou) to accompany you - cause there’s no way the employees at Sonshou Koizumi could refuse meeting him. So off they go to Kyoto (it’s actually taking place in volume 2 of oboreru, that one time when Kijima had Reiichirou accompany him to Kyoto and Jinnai afterwards got all angry about it).
Both Rinko and Ichikawa are embarrassed/nervous and don’t quite understand how it came to this. They show Ichikawa’s drafts to Reiichirou who is also fascinated with them (Rinko and Ichikawa on the other hand are obviously fascinated by Reiichirou lol). Kijima then takes this chance to talk again to Ichikawa about the kimono he wants him to design for the exhibition he’s planning (the one they were planning in oboreru too). He tells him that he has no intention of forcing Ichikawa to do something he doesn’t want. Even though Kijima thinks that Ichikawa has great talent - if he really doesn’t want his works to appear in public - he will give up. But Kijima then also says - in reality Ichikawa is hoping for more people to see his works, isn’t he? After all his kimono was filled with happiness - and also the customers were able to see that, otherwise there wouldn’t have been so many of them who ordered that kimono. Kijima tells him that there would be ways to avoid his name appear in public - which finally makes Ichikawa agree to design another kimono.
Ichikawa is a bit worried though that his work might not be good enough for the exhibition. But Kijima assures him that this won’t be the case - after all, even Reiichirou was fond of his designs. And of course there’s also the great Kijima himself working together with him - so there’s bound to be a great result XD Which actually makes Ichikawa laugh.
They talk about Reiichirou afterwards and Ichikawa comments on how he seems to be very refined and.. beautiful. He immediately corrects himself, saying that it must be strange to describe a man as beautiful. Kijima though sees his chance to clear up some things… He says how it’s not strange at all and that there are a lot of people who are fascinated in that way by Reiichirou… both women and men.
At this Ichikawa seems slightly shocked “M… Men?” So Kijima apologizes for bringing up that topic (seeing that there are many people who are rather uncomfortable with it). Ichikawa denies that though and says that he isn’t uncomfortable with such a topic and doesn’t have any prejudice.
Kjima then wants to get rid of another misunderstanding between them (meaning: he thinks that Ichikawa is afraid of his reaction once Kijima might realize that Ichikawa is into men - he was so afraid that he chose not to meet anymore, after all) - so he says that he also doesn’t have any prejudice - as long as you really love someone it doesn’t matter who that person is. But he then also wants to get rid of any expectations Ichikawa might hold. So he adds that there's someone he's in love with right now (and that this someone is a man). And that it’s unrequited love (so as to not disappoint Ichikawa too much).

They then start their work together. Kijima notices that even though Ichikawa is still concerned about himself appearing in public (and wondering why exactly this is the case) he started to smile way more than before. But what worries Kijima is the way Ichikawa looks at him…
Sometime later Ichikawa comes to visit Kijima at his workplace (while all the other times it has always been Kijima to go visit him in Kyoto). They talk about some work-related things at a restaurant (and the focus of the female customers seems to be all on Kijima). After a while two of Kijima’s co-workers ask if they could join them. Kijima tells them not to disturb them as they are busy with work right now.
Ichikawa is like “Haha, Kijima-san is really popular” The topic then somehow gets back to how Kijima is in love with someone who doesn’t love him back (and it’s just really obvious that Ichikawa is interested in Kijima during the whole conversation).
Kijima on the other hand thinks that he told Ichikawa about his unrequited love so as to make him give up any feelings he might harbor. But that seemingly didn’t work. He can’t directly refuse him because that would ruin their work relationship. Even though Ichikawa isn’t the type of man that he dislikes - normally he might just play around with him - but playing around is not what Ichikawa seems to want. What Kijima on the other hand really wants is Ichikawa’s talent - so please - that guy should just give up already and not be serious about him.

Again sometime later they’re talking on the phone (work-related again). Ichikawa has some new ideas and wants to know if Kijima is interested in hearing about them (what a question  - of course he is!). Kijima says that after the exhibition they’re having a meeting which would be a good time to also talk about Ichikawa’s ideas.

Again later there’s Kijima lying on his couch - drunk. The phone is ringing and it’s Ichikawa. It’s one day before the meeting on which he is supposed to present his ideas and he wants Kijima to look over them before (Ichikawa is currently staying at a hotel). Because it’s late already he suggests to meet tomorrow about an hour before the actual meeting. But Kijima says that there’s nothing wrong with meeting now  - even though he admits that he drank some alcohol (not a lot though - he says)

When he arrives at Ichikawa’s hotel we can see that he’s really drunk - staggering, feeling like throwing up (?) - and according to Ichikawa’s thoughts he also reeks of alcohol. Ichikawa is all “I didn’t think you were actually this drunk. That’s more than just some alcohol. Had I known, I wouldn’t have insisted to meet you…” Kijima just says it’ll be okay after drinking some water. Ichikawa wants to know what happened to him at which Kijima says “I got dumped. I was rejected, just some hours ago.”

And that’s it o.o

I must say I enjoyed this chapter more than I thought I would. I like where this is going. It’s nothing new and it’s pretty obvious which way we’re heading to, but still… Ichikawa still is too timid for my taste but I like that he’s not thick-headed about his own feelings. Okay, he might have gotten his hopes up when he really shouldn’t, but yeah… at least he knows that he likes someone without other people pointing it out to him (yes, I’m looking at you, Reiichirou).
And Kijima is kind of an asshole (but a nice one - which contradicts itself, but whatever) - I like that XD
