 for christmas I got like 280 dollars ish in gift cards to the mall (westroads/oakview).  so last night I went to westroads to von maur to get some lotion and i was gonna just use up the little gift cards.  I handed the lady one that had 10.04 on it ( i checked the balance while i was there) and she told me that partial cards dont work, and that

Gift cards are dumb. They are like ear-marked money. All they say is that so and so went to such and such store and got you money that you can only spend at one place...

That, or they gave the money you could have had to someone else... who then went and got them a gift card that they then gave to you.

well..the upside to mall g.c.'s are that you can use them at nearly every store at either oakview or westroads and that they are good at other malls in the us. its just annoying though if they arent gonna work once i use them, or something like that.

my family gave me a choice, either gift card to mall or mixer, but i couldnt decide on a color or anything so i went with the gift cards. DUMB.

i think the only benefit to them is that it kinda makes the recipient spend the money on something for themselves instead of, say....bills.

exactly. i spent like 130 bucks and didnt feel guilty at all
