I looked around me. There was blood, pools of blood. I looked around me. People are crying. This wasn’t how I imagined it would be. This was supposed to be a special day, a special day Ryosuke had planned for me, a day to celebrate my 19th birthday.

-----------------------------------------------
“Yuyan,” I heard someone calling my name, and I felt a new weight on my stomach. I opened my eyes. I saw Yamada looking at me with his big eyes. Then, the younger teen rolled over, and lay on the grass, next to me.

With his hands on his stomach, Yamada looked at me. “Ne, Yuuyan,” he said. “Do you have any plans for tomorrow?”

I looked at him confused. “Why would I have pl-… Oh,” I said, when I remembered something. It’s my birthday tomorrow. “No, I don’t,” I answered. My family is away visiting some relatives, so I’m home alone.

“That’s good,” Yamada said. He smiled. “Let’s go out tomorrow, ne, Yuuyan?” he said.

I smiled. “Sure,” I answered. Then, suddenly Yamada linked his hand to mine, as he moved closer towards me. I just looked up at the sky happily; enjoying the new warmth snuggled to my chest.

------------------------------------

“Yuuyan, you shouldn’t have picked me up?” Yamada told me. We were walking towards the amusement park, to celebrate my birthday. Yamada was looking at the ground, playing with his fingers. “We’ve agreed to meet at the amusement park,” he added in.

I smiled, chuckling to myself. “But to get to the park, I’ll have to pass your house,” I said, tilting my head a little to look at him. “So, I thought, it would be better if we go together.”

“A-Ah,” Yamada said. I smiled when I saw Yamada blushed when I took his hand into mine. ‘Kawaii~’ I thought.

-------------------------------------

“So, what should we do first, Yuuyan?” Yamada asked me.

I looked at Yamada. “Hmmm…” I said. “What would you like to do first?”

“Mou, Yuuyan!” Yamada puffed his cheeks. “I asked you first. Besides, this is your birthday celebration. You should decide.”

“Well then, how about-…” before I could finish my sentence, Yamada’s stomach made a loud growl. He blushed scarlet. I chuckled inwardly. ‘Kawaii,’ I thought. I smiled. “I’ve decided,” I said. “To the food stall we shall go.”

Yamada just nodded his head, following silently from behind me. He was still embarrassed. I laughed, wrapping my hand around his waist, so that he’s walking next to me, instead of behind me.

After eating, we went on some rides. The last ride we went on was called Giant Drop. We were laughing really hard after we got off the ride.

“That was amazing, ne, Ryo-chan?” I asked him. He looked a little pale, but he just smiled and nodded his head.

“Yeah, that was fun,” Yamada said. He took out the amusement park’s map. “You said you wanted to ride on the Lethal Weapon, ne?” he asked, looking at me over the map.

I shook my head. Then, I went behind him. I wrapped my hands around his neck, and rested my head on his. “You don’t have to force yourself for me, Ryo-chan.”

“B-But…”

“I don’t want my angel to get sick,” I whispered in his ear. Yamada was startled when I suddenly nibbled his earlobe.

“Yuuyan!” he said, placing a hand over the earlobe that I nibbled.

“I thought that you would be ticklish at that spot,” I said.

Yamada’s face turned a shed of red again. “That is not funny, Yuuyan!” he yelled.

After walking around for a while, Yamada spotted something. “Purikura!” he yelled out. He looked at me with a big smile on his face. “Ne, Yuuyan, let’s take a picture for our memory.”

I smiled. “Sure.” Of course, who could resist Yamada’s puppy eyes?

Yamada put both hands in both sides of his pockets. He frowned. “I don’t have any coins.” He looked at me. “Yuuyan, do you have any coins?”

I shook my head. “Gomen ne, Ryo-chan,” I apologized.

“It’s okay,” Yamada told me. “Wait here, okay? I’m going to get some change.” I just nodded my heart.

I sat at a bench near the purikura while Yamada went to change his money. 20 minutes passed, but Yamada still hadn’t return. ‘Changing some money shouldn’t take a long time,’ I thought. I decided to look for Yamada.

As I was walking, I saw a large crowd. Feeling my curiosity rising, I decided to have a look.

There was a woman standing next to me. “What happened?” I asked her.

“There was a crazy man with a gun,” the woman explained. “Some stray bullets that the man shot hit two innocent by-standers. But the man was already arrested by the guards.”

“Oh, I see,” I said, and thanked her for the information she gave. When I went further in front, I could see someone familiar, lying on the pool of blood.

Ryosuke.

I immediately ran faster. I crossed the tapeline. I ignored the yells of the guards. In my mind, there’s only Ryosuke, pale, lying helplessly, in the pool of his own blood. I dropped down next to his body. I cried. ‘Why did this have to happen?’ It was supposed to be my happy memory.

--------------------------------------------
The family of the other person who was shot was still crying at the other side. The family was celebrating their daughter’s graduation. I looked at the sky. Why must it be him? ‘Ryo-chan is just an innocent by-stander,’ I thought.

From this point on, my birthday has become the day I would never forget. Each year when this date arrives, I will not be celebrating my birth. Instead, I’ll be mourning for a loss.
