I used to work around the corner from the Haymarket Hotel, in Burberry's on the Haymarket. It is very swish. Nearest tube stations would be either Charing Cross or Piccadilly Circus. The taxi fare from as far away as Paddington might be a bit steep.

You can type the hotel's address (1 Suffolk Pl, London) into the search field at http://maps.google.com/, which even shows the bus stops!

As Stephen says, the Haymarket Hotel is pretty swish - they have a website here: http://www.tablethotels.co.uk/Haymarket-Hotel/London-Hotels-England/64368?_SID_=20081001070427-1db3f8aad858b919fd309abe802a0243... )

I would love to be escorted or to maat up afterwards. I don't intend to do anything as adventurous as go on the tube on my own. I did that when my son was stationed at MoD and lived - guess where? - in Whetstone and I made it from Victoria bus station to whatever the tube station is called for Whetstone and then back again to come home a week later. That was when I decided "Never again".
I will get a taxi to the hotel and then after the lunch we could meet and have a bit of a chat and you could escort me to paddington and get me safely on the train home. Then I get to meet face to face and Mr M will stop worrying about me a little.
