So I haven't really been going on about what I'm trying to do for my REAL career ( Read more... )

I'm sorry but I'm seeing WAY too many excuses. While I get the money issues being in the way, many of your other excuses (i.e. they should offer this for free) is not doing you any favors.

You keep talking about your acting career, but instead of getting up and DOING it, you make excuses. Is there a theater community in the area? Look into it. Join some boards (I'm quite sure there has to be websites or message boards for the theater community indicating when auditions are). Research the area. Take the care and GO OUT and find these places.

Making excuses will never do you well. It'll just keep you from doing what you want.

There's only three in the area. I'm not sure when the next auditions for one is (Although it'll conflict with a play I REALLY want to do in another theater), the park district requires money as well as the fact the lady in charge is so HORRIBLE at updating information for that program, and I had to wait for the last group because of the age ranges (I was too old or too young for the show I REALLY wanted to do). And the next auditions for that one will not be until next month.

I've been freaking out after losing my job that I don't know what will happen. I THOUGHT focusing on JUST finding a new job was going to work, but just keeping fixated on one thing DIDN'T. And by the time I started looking around again for opportunities, NOTHING was there or I missed it. And I just want to be DOING something again.

So maybe you should put aside what you REALLY want and just take a shot and what is avalible. Not every play you do (or try out for) is something you really want to do, but it may get you more experience and connections for future work that you DO want to do.

I remember asking before, but not your response, as to why not trying temp agencies. You can sign up for several, and they will find you gigs (temp ones, but sometimes they become perm).

Obviously you need to focus on looking for a job, but keep an ear to the ground on other things as well.

I have at least signed up with one agency...the problem is, the ones I've found are expecting 2 years experience in office, which is what I don't have, but I think getting an official certification in Microsoft Office is going to help.

I did have one encouraging lead with a seasonal job today (And of course, I've been putting in for retail and looking at other job sites for a long time), and I hope that will work. Even if I will have to pass up that play if I'm hired...but I don't think I'd be upset about it under these circumstances.
