Daniel Faraday is a bad liar. He's never been good at concealing the truth from others, not even when it's for their best interest. His face tends to betray what he's thinking if his tongue does not. He knows that this isn't a very good trait for him to have in this situation but that doesn't matter much to him. He's always valued honesty over deceit; it's simply how he is and he doubts he'd change that even if he could.
They don't trust him now, especially after he was caught lying. He thinks that's okay because now that they know the truth though--that they were never here to rescue them in the first place--he doesn't have to hide it from them anymore. He doesn't have to lie and pretend anymore. He can be honest again and it fills him with the most freeing sort of relief.
The only downside is that now he's been labeled a liar and it's doubtful anyone will believe anything he has to say from now on--truth or no. He anticipates the frustration that will come as a result of that but he supposes there's no way to help that now. What's done is done. He's ready to put the past behind him and make way for the future, uncertain as it is.
Things can only get better from here on out, right?
