So for some demented reason, I want to make icons relating to Arthurian legend now. This is in no way related to me listening to the music of Heather Dale a lot lately. Nope. Totally not at all. The problem is, I don't know that much about it*, and I probably wouldn't ever use them myself. So ( Read more... )

speak to me!, myths and legends, icon stuff, pretend this is an iconing lj

You know, I would say that keeping your Elaines straight is enough to induct you into Arthurian geekery. And I'm certainly no scholar, I just like the stories (though I will admit the grail story never appealed to me terribly much, for various reasons, and I rather want to hit Lancelot and Guinevere both with large heavy objects BUT ANYWAY).

(And the only reason I can quote "The Lady of Shalott" is because of Loreena McKennit.)

Want quotes? Tennyson's "Idylls of the King," White's "Once and Future King," both of which I've only read excerpts of, but they're both readable and good. And "Morte d'Arthur," of course, but I've read none of that, so ...

ANYWAY NONE OF THIS IS ICON REQUESTS mostly because all but one of my spots are already used up so I have no particular reason to ask for things.

I really loved the Sword in the Stone, which is in a lot of ways very weird non-traditional Arthurian stuff. Arthur's exploits with the various animals are full of quotable bits and fun poetry (although the only bit I can remember is 'everything not forbidden is compulsory').
