You should have been with me last week - not wanting to own your feelings but I was the exact version of this. When one of my best friends and fellow Englisher's gets told 'You can usually tell who'll be cut out for a career in academia, and you probably will' in 5th week, I just felt like tearing the whole thing up and leaving. HOWEVER - this week, said genuis friend got told to read MY essay. I felt like a total bitch at how happy that made me feel. And the thing is - I really do like this person, so it's not a competition, but... it is.

This place is insane. It is not the real world. It will send a lot of people mad. If you can survive it, you'll probably never need by intimidated again. But if you need a not-Magdalen person for anything, Exeter is always open. Well, until 10pm.

Oh, don't feel bad about chapel. Guess who's going to Mass next week...

I'm having a particularly shitty sixth week too and there are FOUR results for "sixth week blues" on google, proving that it does exist! So you will definitely be fine by Sunday, if not before! Hope you feel better today x

Don't let all this stuff get you down Harriet! If you're getting 2.1s in your first term at Oxford, then you definately deserve to be here! And I'm sure you're not half as bad or mediocre as you think you are! You have to stay anyway, because I say so...I need my Harriet to stop me going insane with boy crises and the like. *hugs!*

If you need to chat about anything, RING ME! I'm always around and I love a good natter, as well you know!

Just to say I was in exactly the same place last week, but things can change so quickly - I got told that the essay I spent one day on (reading + writing) was excellent - I think the problem is that we're still trying to work out exactly what they want from us. Like Katie said - come and visit us in Exeter - we're all lovely here! (mostly) Or go and find Will Measham at Magdalen - fresher, russian and philosophy, used to have lots of ginger hair but hasd recently got rid of it all - he is the most lovely guy, and very much not a "smug male bastard"!
