Fred Weasley’s card tricks are like real magic. He finds the Queen of Hearts for her over and over, smiling broadly across the counter as she examines the cards again in disbelief.

Beautiful monument for Fred! You give him a lovely touch.

One thing though (I hope you don't mind), it's hard to write in present tense. At the start you switch to past tense twice, where it should still be the same narrative time:
as the bell over the door signaled his exit.
She keeps it anyway, taped it away in a photograph album somewhere.

At the end it's retrospective, and it fits in the narrative there.

Still, I love the ficlet. Very well done.

i know, i got all weepy writing this. :( i think that's my favorite part of this, the idea that for all their short acquaintance, fred is always going to be alive for this girl, because she doesn't know and she can remember him without any grief whatsoever.

thank you so much! i have a tendency to get verbose and want to go on detail heavy tangents, so the simplicity in this is a real accomplishment for me!
