Natalia walked down the hallway of the luxurious hotel, pulling Daniel along beside her with a firm grip on his bicep. He had given up on fighting against her, but she knew if given half a chance he would try and make a run for it. She hadn’t flown from Rome, Italy to Miami, Florida for him to escape at the last minute.
She came to a halt at the door to room 937, jerking Daniel to a violent stop as well. She reached out and rapped her knuckles against the wood, even though the occupant of the room already knew that she was there.
The door was jerked open, revealing the occupant of the room. For a split second he looked like a deer caught in the headlights before he schooled his face into a stone mask. “What are you doing here?”
Natalia smiled and pushed past him, dragging Daniel into the hotel room with her. She waited for the door to close before speaking. “You need to take better care of your child, Armand. Do you have any idea what he’s been up to?”
“Daniel is grown and can make his own decisions and choices. He doesn’t need my permission for anything, nor do I have any need to have any say in his life.” Armand’s voice was cold like ice, sending the fine hairs on the back of Natalia’s neck up into alert.
“That may be, but he is your only child, and I know that you do care for him. You would kill anyone that harmed a hair on his head, and if you knew what my coven was planning you would be furious that they would even think it. I’ve saved him. You know what coven’s do to those that start slipping into madness. You need to care for him now.” Natalia gave Daniel a shove towards Armand.
Armand turned away from Natalia and looked at Daniel. He reached up and cupped Daniel’s face in his hands before pulling Daniel down to place a kiss on his brow. He looked back at Natalia, his eyes closed to hide the pain. “Thank you. What can I do to repay you?”
“Nothing, this was just my last act as a coven master. I wanted to show that I do have a heart, and I hope that you forgive my debt to you.”
“I forgave that debt long ago. You have done so much for me through these centuries. Your small actions resulted in such large consequences for me, for the better.”
Natalia smiled and walked past the two. She left them to their reunion and went out to restart her life.
