ACK! Serious stuff! And the pileateds are big!
I need to post the photo of the bottle rocket sticking out of my gable, nearly the same location as your woodpecker door.
We used to make fun of our friends whose metal plumbing stacks (sticking out of their roofs) were selected as tambours for mating 'peckers. Oh, gosh, it was some funny... until they did the same thing at our house.

Damage is under control for the time being. A patch has been installed. Now, we're just hoping that the damn bird doesn't come back to drill more holes!

You will not be pleased, but you may have another problem.
Generally, they pick on wood in which they have detected insect activity.
You may need to check. :(
