Official Ordenhaus Tour: To the Basement...

She'd thought the house was disturbingly creepy upstairs but that was nothing compared to what awaited them at the end of the staircase beneath the house. It looked kind of like a cross between an aquarium in hell and some mad scientist's lab. Which, she thought with a sideways glance at Isaak, it rather well could be. "I thought you mentioned a ( Read more... )

Kate gulped. It was less than reassuring to know her body resided here. When he said medical facility she assumed it was something like the one in Rome. This was a twisted lab. "A-ah...it's past here...perhaps?"

"I never said it was a medical facility," he reminded the Cardinal as he flipped on the fluorescent lights overhead. Perhaps the light would make them more comfortable...

Or not. It didn't seem to help in Kate's case, at least. "Actually..." He trailed off, gave up on words altogether and simply led them onward, past the tanks in which his creatures resided and the tables on which he performed his dissections and toward the tidy, quiet corner where Kate's body rested, behind a thin curtain that separated her from the subjects and showed that he had made an effort, at least. In fact, if one didn't look particularly closely, one might not notice that it was one of those aforementioned dissection tables on which she lay. He thought the sheet helped.

Caterina made a mental note to remind him that these small distinctions did matter. It kept her distracted from the growing horror of thier surroundings. Only years of diplomacy kept that horror from her gaze. She stepped up to the table on which her dearest friend's all-too-still form lay, hooked up to the equipment that kept her alive, hesitated, and reached out to brush her fingertips against Kate's cheekbone. She was terribly cool, rather painfully reminding her of a marble angel. She turned to Isaak with a flash of anger that was mostly due to her own inability to help. "Bring blankets. There's no need for her to be cold." The hospital had always been cold. She hated cold.

Kate appreciated the small effort. He could have easily kept her out amongst the rest of the specimens(?). "...Well this isn't so bad. Everything seems in order..." Kate trailed off. Caterina always seemed to get angry during these visits and this new place she resided made no difference. "There's no need to yell. Mr. Kampfer is doing his best..."
