I agree with you 1 and 2, though. Locking up is smart, especially at night. A low-crime neighbourhood can still get hit, and it'd suck all the more if you'd left the place unlocked.
And helping people out IS a great feeling, though it can be easy to get lost in trying to give someone support. It's a pain when you've got the power to make someone else's life better, but at the same time you can't improve your own circumstances.
