Whether it was the gentle movement of the Atalanta’s decks beneath her feet or simply her beleaguered body finally reaching some accord with the babe she carried, Elizabeth could not be sure, but she was nevertheless grateful to be relieved of the constant upset in her stomach. The smells of food and drink were again pleasing to her, and her senses

Elizabeth is wonderful here, and your exploration of her fear and loneliness rings true. I love Jack's pride in her captaincy, her calling him "Sparrow," and her friendship with the women of the Cove.
“Even if I suspected you had a ha’penny, Jack, I’d have to decline,”
Great line :-) Great story, and I do hope you give us more soon ♥

Another great, entertaining chapter with well-written characters! Poor Elizabeth, she's in a tough situation! It's hardly surprising she's missing her home and family; she might have found new friends, but it's still not the same, especially not with a child underway. Jack was kind of insensitive here, though I think he actually misjudged the situation. I've always seen him as someone who finds it rather hard to deal with emotions - his own as well as those of others.
I really liked your take on Lizzie as Jack's Captain. I suppose this will help shrinking his ego ;)
Again, great writing! All the conflict presented in this story is well-written and utterly believable.
I'm looking forward to the next instalment!

Yes, exactly -- he doesn't jump to say, there there, I'm here for you... this is a tenuous emotional situation for him, because beyond "Once was quite enough," they have not yet discussed The Kiss. And though his compass has led him to her... he's there for a purpose. So they haven't reached a comfort zone yet, although she does feel safe to confide her fears in him.
Thank you so much for a wonderful comment -- I'm very glad you're enjoying!

Glad you did, I am as ever very glad that this community still has active and amazing writers offering us gems like this.
I must say I quite enjoy Lizzie as a captain, and as Jack's superior even though I most prefer them as perfect equals (which they on many levels are). But he'd better not complain because he was the one who made her the King in the first place. *grin*
Looking eagerly forward to the next chapter. :)

how her mannerisms shift just so around Jack.
She does alter a bit around Jack... sometimes guarded, sometimes not... they're still in that gray area where they haven't discussed The Kiss and Once is Quite Enough. That will be a fun chapter ;)
