Why has it only recently begun to impress upon me that the Holocaust was not as distant as I once felt? That it was really, in the scheme of things, quite recently that such horrors took place?

Maybe it's because I am a mother, and the particular horror of being separated from my children so that they might be tortured and killed, terrified and ( Read more... )

Oh, honey.

My mom was 9 when this horror happened. When the truth began to surface in American newspapers, my grandparents tried to hide them, but of course that didn't work. Mom told me once that discovering this kind of evil in people colored the rest of her childhood and adolescence, turned the world into a terrifying place.

We have to know it's out there, pay attention, in order to speak out against it. Don't let it tip the balance for you, though - love has always been far more powerful than fear and its attendant miseries, and it always will be. Wrap yourself up your family, your friends, the hearts of all the good people in this world.

*Hugs back* Lucky for me, I'm blessed to know a good many of those good people you're talking about. Thanks, love. You always have the right words.

*hugs* Hear, hear. It boggles my mind that there are people out there that thinks it never happened. Especially the "New Nazis"> here in Sweden. I saw a documentary once about a young girl, that said she was a Nazi, proud off it and that the holocaust had never happened. She was brought to Auschwitz. She was standing in the midst of it all. And still she didn't believe it had happened. That. Is terrifying. *hugs*

Thanks for the hugs... I don't know what on Earth brought that on, maybe some reading I was doing, or the documentary my husband was watching, but it just struck me very hard suddenly... but it means a lot to know I'm not alone in my horror, so thank you again :)
