Savannah, GA. It's good to finally be here... I'm getting used to finding my way around. I can get to my classes without getting lost, get to church without being late, and get to the cathedral and back without getting turned around. At least, not too badly turned around. "the theology is sound"

Wow. Really? Did something happen in the Episcopalian Church that I missed? 'Cause I sure know a heckuva lot of non-sound stuff that they preach.

I remember our old pastor, Don Mason, saying that "Episcopalians will choose beauty over truth every time," and while that's true they will also choose a lot of other things over truth as well. They were the denomination probably most active in the "social gospel" movement and are undoubtedly one of the most liberal politically today (with regard to homosexuality, abortion, same-sex marriage, affirmative action, etc., etc., etc.). In fact, their official "sources of authority" are scripture, tradition, and reason. Find "tradition" and "reason" in the Bible as sources of authority, will ya? 'Cause they're not in mine.

Be careful -- very careful -- that you aren't choosing beauty over truth.

The teaching at this particular church is true, yes. Just because the Episcopal denomination is politically and morally liberal doesn't mean that every congregation agrees with these views. Were the priests at St. John's not teaching truth, I wouldn't be going there- beauty is nice, but not what my life has to be built on.

It's not necessarily either-or... beauty and truth can exist in the same place.
