Everyone I've spoken to who was there said it was a good event. That site is a pain and far more experienced event organisers than you have run not great events at it.
What you need to do is play a couple of events and de stress, everyone has bad events absolutely everyone and no one who hasn't done it can even vaguely understand how much work goes into writing and running an event or is entitled to comment.
All that said you'd look good in black green and silver
Only running an event shows you the absolute horror of the things. Even at "openly well liked" events, playing you only see the mill pond, walk-in crewing you only see the duck's feet near you.
You did it more on your own and with fewer resources than many "more experienced" eventers would touch with a barge pole.
I would also offer you an ornate tabard for my group of course, except I'm hardly ever IC to appreciate it! :-). Fortunately yellow suites you.
I think one of the main things I would say is firstly - don't make any sort of decision like this within a month of an event. Give it time to settle in your head as well as others and things will work tend to seem less massive than they do straight after an event
( ... )
As has been said before Consall "The Himalaya's" Scout Camp is a great site if the weather is good. Sadly the weather dealt you a whole pile of rubbish in excess to deal with. A walk that in the warm is rather pleasant became a trek.
As for the food logisitics, well your caterer's needed a working kitchen. The oven in the one at the top of the hill was not working, neither was one of the stove rings, thus limiting your choice of kitchen.
Traffic meant you couldn't get all your set dressing to site when you want, again a third party issue.
We all have events we aren't proud of (trust me been there). However you coped exceptionally well with the hand you were dealt, Silverwood is a nice site (and flat) without the third party problems I think you will be awesome.
