We were told there would be something special happening at that time, hence all waiting around to watch it.

Can I ask by whom? Disappointed players is a Bad Thing.

(and I do agree that there should have been something happening)

I don't know, it was kinda a passed around thing (so I guess it could have just been made up)
But a large lot of people came down especially to watch and it was all very tense having narrowly avoided that large number of people stabbing the crap out of another large number of people. All good roleplay, ruined.
If nothing happened it would have just been mildly dissapointing.

We were told that the end of the cataclysm was midnight on Sunday but a ritual was happening so we assumed the cataclysm would wait until it was over (because the dragon loves trannies?) A cake appeared and we all sang happy birthday to Edreja which was dubious in itself since Edreja has not yet been born and had it have been born it would not have been a happy moment for the people singing.. We then were all offered cataclysm chocolate cake which may very well have been the reason I was awake for most of the night :)

I liked it, I just didn't see the link to the cataclysm which I thought could have been quite dramatic since we've been building it up for over three years.

Who told you there would be something happening? The cake and so forth was, as I understand, nothing to do with plot and the cataclysm.

It was probably fourth hand by the time it got to me, but I was also told IC by several people to be there - a hell of a lot of people were - for the "end of the cataclism" at midnight. When we arrived, we had a REALLY tense stand off with the trannies down there, which was pretty much exploded by the 4th wall breakage in an IC area where people were rolemplaying.

But hey - chalk it up to one of those things. It was extremely misjudged, but sometimes people misjudge things.

Most of the hosting guild masters thought there was going to be something happening to celebrate the end of the cataclysm but it's done now and forgotten :)

I heard later that it was one of the Watchers Birthdays however at the time most of the players didn't know that, we were given no indication IC that that was the causeand such an oc birthday thing should never run IC in a major IC area.

The Sunday night thing - I had no complaints that whatever it was was late, just that it was jugely lame. Even if there was no "end of the cataclysm" event, then there should have been nothing. After a crown waiting for twenty minutes, to have smoke pour out of the ritual circle and a fourth-wall breaking birthday party in an IC area was rubbish.

The Monday battle felt lazy. There may well be an IC rationale for it, but that's only okay if we're free to respond to it in an IC manner. The IC response was universally "this is a stupid plan and we're going to do something else" - but the OC pressure to force a battle intervened, with increasingly ridiculous pressure to have some kind of a fight. People who turn up for battles got one - an excellent one - on Sunday. I'm confident that the Monday battle will have pissed off more players than it will have satisfied. I understand the pressures, but I think it was a bad call.

Aside from that (and the toilets, which I also understand), the event was generally very good.
