Bear in mind that a mink is essentially a weasel.

It's hard to hold in the same thought that anything that small and beautiful could also eat a chicken from its feet up. Weasels are amazing animals.

That one is about half grown. I'm not sure Orion would attempt an adult.

Hopefully, after this, he won't attempt the kids either.

I thought you wanted him to go after weasels.

Or is it too dangerous for him?

Short-tails are sorta rare around here, aren't they?

I'd have to say that in rural areas they are more common than reported.

I'd be worried about Orion taking on an adult, personally. I think he'd be capable of killing one with or without Artemis. I would worry about vet trips for stitches being the end result of such an effort.

Well maybe Orion can come help us. I just looked out the window and see another fine mole hill in the middle of my yard. Got a noise stick to keep them out of the garden, but obviously it's range is not huge.

I keep on having flashbacks to Caddyshack and wanna go all Bill Murray on the rodent, but don't know where to get enough C4..... That is a cute, albeit ex-weasel. It looks like it would be really soft.

I remember my grandmother saving hair from haircuts and stuffing it into mole tunnels to discourage them - they don't like the people smell.. Also something about growing castor beans to keep them out of the garden. OTOH, I also remember her setting mole traps too, so your milage may vary...

It was too young to be the first one Lady Equine sighted. That means there are likely to be at least two more. Mommy and Daddy.

Awww. I was sad when Daisy killed the one that had been hunting mice in my barn. They're so lovely, and so vicious. They can hurt a cat badly; I hope they're careful.
