Apparently this is happening, so I wrote a drabble.

They watched the premiere in stunned silence.

"No," Sanzo and Goku said simultaneously, as the credits rolled.

"I wasn't that young--"

"I'm not that old now--""You're both being stupid," Gojyo said, lighting another cigarette. "It's not really about you anyway

I feel like I'm missing a reference re Gojyo's reaction :( (Not a criticism of your writing! A criticism of my forgetfulness regarding the material!)

It's meant to imply that of course it's not meant to be an accurate portrayal (the promotional materials keep calling it a 'loose adaptation). Hard to do in 100 words though.

AMC have been making some really good series, but I doubt it will have much in common with Saiyuki!

I do give it points for having two Asian leads. That's like four times more Asian leads than most things adapted from Asian sources.

The preview was kind of fun! I think I'll give it a shot.
