Here's my list of the quintessential anime movies/OAV that any self respecting anime fan must see. If you haven't seen the majority of these, and you dare to call yourself a fanboy, you should hang your head in shame.

1. Akira: Ok, this is a no brainer. It still deserves a mention.

Yeah, I really fucking love that movie so much. So much that I wish I could never watch it again.

I blame Matt for inflicting me with that awful movie.

I agree with most of your list for sure. There are a handful I haven't seen, but I believe I've at least heard of them all :P

However, classics like Akira and Ghost in the Shell, while no brainers, really don't serve much of a purpose other than to show what really got anime going over here in the States. I mean, am I the only one that really doesn't think either of those movies is all that great? This coming from a guy who owns both said movies and has the uber-special edition of Akira in the metal box :P ( ... )

I agree that Akira and the original Ghost in the Shell were over rated. Still though, they serve their purpose, like you said, as bench markers and that was all I was trying to say with their inclusion on my list ( ... )
