Yes, it's not just me!!!! You know how some people feel about clowns? That's how I feel about dolls. I owned all of one doll when I was a kid, and it was a show doll that you could never, never play with and it was a gift of a bridesmaid doll to go along with the bride doll my sister got. My sister had the creepiest dolls, especially the baby that could blink its eyes open and shut *shudder*.
I liked stuffed animals, and had a ton until I lost them all during a move at age 32. Well, the ones I managed to keep from my mother who sold off the ones I'd left at home, in a garage sale when I was in college. ...yeah, okay, I may still be sort of not over that.
I actually LOVED dolls as a kid, esp a very special early-mid 1960's Babrie doll my aunt got from relatives in America and then handed down to me (she's 9 years older than me ). The Barbie had full long dark blond hair and had her own black shiny vinyl 'closet' that consisted few outfits and as far as I remember few sets of knee length boots and tiny high heel shoes (which I guess explains my ever lasting love for fashion lol ). I also had a larger doll I got from France which was almost my size (when I was four-five years old...) and had a very very chick name, Leslie, and very chic look with bright blue eyes and long dark blond hair. The French doll had a bright green dress and my aunt (the one with the Barbie ) actually made more clothes for her. Maybe my aunt should have gone on the doll challenge lol it was back in the 70's though lol

What has designing dollclothes got to do with Project Runway fashion? Sponsorship, that's all. Stoopid. But actually it was an interesting episode.
Did anyone notice the ugly, frumpy housedress on the actress? She cannot be a fashion expert!
Kini's was really great, but I agree that there is just something "off" about Kini. Is he too ready to wear? Too something.
Amanda's was okay. Poor Emily has a successful children's clothng line, so what is her excuse for that hideous mess. The sweater fabric could have been cute if it were small and form-fitting - there was just too much of it. The skirt was simply a disaster. How uncomfortable that little girl looked! Sean totally missed a chance to shine with a cool 70s outfit. His was just dull and boring.
I cheered when Sandya was auf'd. It's the kiss of death to argue (and so smugly) with the judges, but they almost had to auf her for that onesie outfit. She is just delusional.
I have no favorite and not a lot of interest in the remainder of this season.
Yep, that's what this show is now. I mean, Red Robin? Really. But yeah, having said that, I did like this episode heads above all the others so far.
Is he too ready to wear? Too something.
He's got an automaton vibe or something. It's like they give a challenge and he ticks through the 3,000 patterns he has in his head, picks one out and goes to town. It's a little pre-made, off the rack or something.

You know, people say this but we haven't actually SEEN the clothes. Maybe it's for goth kids?

Blech, so happy, and the shame is it's all her response to critiquing. The clothes were at least entertaining, if only in the parameters of me being able to "WTF"? during the runway show

I actually liked the challenge. I liked it even better when it was the Barbie challenge back in season 3 I think it was and the winner had their designs made as a limited edition.
I liked this episode a lot. Nobody really made a hideous mess except Sandhya, and her departure was loooong overdue. SNAPS. She puts SNAPS on the back of it, what the hell??!? Loved Kini's (mostly the coat) and Korina's (much as I hate to say it, because I can't stand Korina herself.) Sean's was boring but at least it wasn't awful. I think Char went overboard on the fringe but I could see a little girl loving that. I still like Amanda.
What is the thing with coats not being big enough to do up? Kini's had it and so did Korina's ugly carpet coat from a few weeks ago. I don't get non-functional clothing. Are these coats for people who go from the cab to the restaurant or something? Inquiring minds...
Did you hear there is going to be an All Stars 4??? Dmitry is coming back (my fave designer ever) and also CHRIS MARCH woot! (Still no Santino, damnit.)
SNAPS. She puts SNAPS on the back of it, what the hell??!?
That SERIOUSLY squidged me right out. Maybe I just have a really sick mind, but I just wondered what pedophilic nightmare that came out of.
I still like Amanda.
I actually liked her outfit this week, basically. Maybe I'll be rooting for her at the end?
Are these coats for people who go from the cab to the restaurant or something? Inquiring minds...
Yes. In a word. They're fashion coats, not function coats. Did you ever see the last, Winter season of Sex and the City? They're always running around in the wind with their coats wide open, so they can show off the outfits beneath them.

NO I HADN'T EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE YAY!!!! I LOVE Chris!! And Dmitry too! OMH, bring back Wendy Pepper, that would be TOO GREAT. Oh, gotta get Santino HAVE TO.
No Santino and no Wendy Pepper, but they are bringing Kate back for a third time. I'm not sure why, since there's absolutely no way she can win against the likes to Dmitry and Chris March, right? RIGHT? *sigh*
Argh, that stupid lj app just ate my comment! I was talking about how I like dolls as icons of a culture at a given time, e.g. check out Indian Barbie dolls. Or did you know there are Barbies with Burkas? I don't know any of the dolls you mention, though, and I didn't understand the challenge at first.I'll look up some of the dolls I think

She reminded me of trainees I sometimes have who have not enough experience, neither of the job nor of life itself, to spout as many opinions as they do.
Bwahahahaha we ALL know that type. I have way too many students like that.
(Btw, what does 'auf'd' mean anyway?)
"Auf wiedersehen" - short for the German expression for - is that "until later"? Or straight-out "goodbye"? Anyway, along the lines of "So long."

Holy shit, how embarrassing is that! I just read your explanation out to Nicki and she burst out laughing. We as Germans should have known Heidi would use "Auf Wiedersehen". It is used like goodbye, btw, though literally it means "until I see you again".
Is that expression only used in that show or has it found its way into some other usage?
Hee! Yes, here on the Jane journal, we refrain from public shaming... well, now we do.
Yeah, I actually contemplated how to respond to that, and decided the straight-up explanation would do.
Is that expression only used in that show or has it found its way into some other usage?
Well, the show brought Heidi's "auf" into the culture, but we use it more like "You've been auf'd" when someone's been kicked off something. That's about it.
Your assessment of Kini is exactly how I feel. There is nothing fresh and new about what he makes. It's all very safe and expected. I am not wowed by the fact that he can sew quickly. This is a fashion competition, not a seed race.
My choice for the win would have been Korina.
As for the auf, I think Sandhya's mouth is what got her sent home. Alexander's outfit looked just and infantile as Sandhya's. They both made looks better suited for 1-3 year old than preteens. However, Sandhya kept telling the judges she disagreed with them. If you aren't going to listen or at least pretend to listen to the judges they will punish you for it. Ask Mondo.
In fact Emily or Sean would have been my choice for the auf. It's a shame really because Sandhya's Collection would have been my choice for the win. The makeup on the models is bad, but the clothes are the most interesting of all the designers.
Yep, although Kini had the greatest impact on me and for myself I liked the color/print combo and style - but I'm a... 39(hahahhah *ahem*) -year old woman! And it is a kids challenge.
As for the auf, I think Sandhya's mouth is what got her sent home
Yeah, me too, totally. If it had been straight-up, Emily's track record for challenges is much worse. Gotta play the game!
Ask Mondo.
Yeah, we all got punished for that one.
All right, now I can go off and check out the latest loser's runway! I hope you will keep posting the links as they lose so I can keep doing that. Also, thank you!
Very cool collection! I disagreed with SO MUCH lettering - the style was great enough and just a print would have done better than letters or words on some of them IMO, but that was awesome. Too bad! I loved the green skirt and dress color and cut - and the cage thing. Very cool.

Here's the cast: http://insidetv.ew.com/2014/09/16/project-runway-all-stars-season-4-cast/
(I've never seen a full episode of SaTC, but I would find that completely annoying.)
