I basically agreed with all the designers that Tim’s decision about Char was not really fair. I understand the WHY, for the model’s sake, but even so, it was not fair to the others, and it basically saved Char, undeservedly so, IMO. Her peplum ruined an otherwise inoffensive outfit, and I was already pissed at her for blaming the model: “You broke the zipper!” As if the model’s hips were at fault for the flawed sewing ( ... )

Yeah, it really wasn't. And, I am SO TOTALLY with you about being annoyed at Char for blaming the model so vehemently. I guess what happened is that Char didn't close off the zipper and the model pulled it past the bottom and it just ruined it. Yeah, maybe she shouldn't have been screwing with it - but you should have sewed off the bottom of the zipper! And then Tim didn't call her on whining and trying to use "it's not my fault!" Ugh, it was just wrong.

Holy hell, I almost wish Tim hadn’t warned him how hideous that was! It would have been hilarious to see the judges’ reactions!

Oh, yes! me too, that would have been hilarious. Tim should have been, are you SURE? and then let Alexander let his hideous taste parade.

I really liked Emily's - and it would have won for any other competition.

Her ego annoys me, I don't really like Korina's style, tbh. I think maybe I'll be rooting for Emily, if she can pull in that goth thing, and if she ( ... )

Honestly this lot was so bad I think Korina won by default. I don't like the shoes with it but it was the most polished look out there ( ... )

Yep, the boots were such a cliche. But, yeah, the jacket and skirt definitely matched and were definitely polished. I really loved Emily's (except for, again, the shoes)! I still think if she'd left off the wings, she'd have had a better shot at the top.

I also don't get why the outfit for the teacher is inappropriate. Unless she plans on wearing it to work it's fine.

...I get what you're saying, and it's a personal decision for each teacher out there, but IMO it's too far out of character. I teach on the college level, and I wouldn't want any of my adult students to see me in seriously plunging necklines or micro-minis. Not that her students would see her at a club, but their parents might. Even if they don't, teachers have a certain sensibility - there had to be a way to translate that to sexy without going off the rails.

Sean needs to stop beating the fringe dead horse. That dress was a bit mother of the bride.
Bwah! I don't agree that it was mother- ( ... )

Thank you. I'm a teacher.

I ran an early intervention program for 3 -5 year olds for several years. I always dressed professionally for work, but my off time was mine. I just didn't get the pearl clutching about it being inappropriate for a teacher. Sure there are variables depending on the population you teach and certain activities that may bleed over into your teaching duties, but that outfit just wasn't a big deal to me.

First, we are told by Alexander that he wants a win. Yeah, that'll happen

Ha! MTA! I think this old editing trick is reaaaaly getting old now. At first it was actually quite fun to have that little twisted guessing game of 'See if the person who gets the most screen time at the beginning of the ep is the one to leave' but now it's actually getting quite annoying. I guess it wouldn't be THAT annoying though, if at least the garments were not SO poorly made, you know? I mean so far this season most of the Auf'd designers (other than Fade and my boy Mitchel ) were quite terrible so it wasn't a huge shock to see them eliminated and the same goes for Alexander. Sorry 'bout that. His designs were my least fav all along but this time it was really messed up so I -for one- knew right away he was going to be Au'fd. I totally agreed with Tim's first reaction during the Tim time. In fact I THINK Tim kinda knew Alexander will be gone by the end of this ep anyway so maybe that's why he decided to put his 'exec producer' cap on during 'Tim Time' ( ... )

It was really annoying - perfect word - to know the editing was pointing at either the win or the boot right at the beginning. I get that the producers are filming to the lowest common denominator, but still.

I really was shocked when Tim declared him "one of the most talented designers I've ever seen." I all but yelled "NO F'ING WAY!" at the television. Why would he say something so obviously untrue?

the whole tempest in a tea-pot

Tempest in a tea pot indeed but as Tim was 'forced' to explain Zippergate to a very board-yet trying to look like an angry headteacher Heidie- I was kinda thinking ; Why would they even give an extra 10 minutes to fix the zipper for the 'client' while not even bothering to do that in any other challenge? There were more than a few wardrobe malfunction cases with one of the 'regular' models where the wanna-be designer would just stitch it on her seconds before she goes out on a runway KNOWING it would make the garment look even worst than it already did so why would they had all this drama in Char's case?
But anyway... the point is that even with all the added drama around Alexander AND Char it didn't help any of them, nor did it help us (the viewers...)
And btw- I'm an elementary school teacher myself...

In fact IIRC Tim said Alenxander reminded him of "those Proenza boys". Wut?. I look at Alexander's work and all I see is student work. I get that he is young, but so was Siriano and he shows none of the promise that Christian did.

Heavens! This time I read your text before looking at the pictures and from that I gathered that the clothes the wannabe designers were making were supposed to make their chosen models look good.

It didn't quite work out that way, did it.

Had I been one of the chosen models I'd have refused to wear most of those dresses. I think I would have been quite happy to wear Emily's, though it's not exactly original. (I wonder if that is a European thing somehow.) Both Amanda and Alexander seem to come from that misguided concept that every woman can wear everything because every woman is beautiful. Hello? Yes, everyone is beautiful in their own ways, but that does not mean that everything goes for everyone, maybe it should, but it doesn't if you're part of this here society.

Nicki and I regularly watch a TV show called Shopping Queen by one of our favourite designers, Guido Maria Kretschmer, which sort of helped to make us feel good about ourselves. He never tries to gloss over women's looks but very easily talks about what they could ( ... )

OMG, no, not at all. Even Kini, whom I think did the best job in general for his model, had the hair and the accessories all wrong.

I'd have refused to wear most of those dresses.

I'm torn - the models were nice and made that aspect of the show sweet, but that's not exactly what the producers wanted. I would certainly have tried to gently question Amanda's choices. And maybe if Char's model had been a bit more assertive, Char may have avoided those awful hot pants. (I must admit that I hate shorts on the runway, so I'm going to denigrate them no matter what.)

And that is what they should have done here, not just pretended that everyone has the looks of a model who might have pulled off those ugly clothes

Yes, absolutely. It's a "real woman" challenge - real world clothes does not mean inappropriate/ugly/unsuitable.

And, yeah, the make-up on Alexander's model! Thank you for pointing that out! She's blonde, okay, obviously bleached blonde, but that harsh makeup is doing her no favors ( ... )

Hi, Me again ;)
Just came across a whole different reality show on Discovery channel titled Deadliest Catch http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0446809/ I NEVER thought I'd be interested in this kind of a reality show because I am a Tim Gunn kinda girl but after watching one random DC ep from season 10 I TOTALLY understood why this show beat PR and won best reality show in this year's Emmy awards. Plus they have some sort of a pre-show show where they ALSO use some product placement but in the most brilliant way in a form of plates of juicy yummi hamburgers, fries AND onion rings curtsey of their sponsor that are waiting on the table as the 'panel' discuss the show.
Just sayin' :D
