Project Runway All Stars

I'm really sorry I don't have time for an in-depth presentation of this week's episode, so I trust everyone to fill in the blanks for me. I do have a bit to say, and of course pics!

The challenge was really interesting - inspired by Wicked, make a couture type dress inspired by either good or wicked.

Georgianna was missing so the wonderful Betsy Johnson was a judge!

And, puke, Ariel Winter, really? First, how would you like to be judged by a teenager? Not so much. Yeah, she looked great but I'm already done with celebrities. Look, just because you wear fashion doesn't make you an expert, and yes, it's a young person's game, but teenagers are generally not equipped for expertise. At all.

Moving along. The contestants have to win a face-off with one other designer, and then the regular high-low. Here are the head-to-heads:

Justin v. Fabio:

Justin:

Boring and not a little bit cliche'd. I'm surprised this won - the judges had a problem with Fabio's bondage-inspired, apron-like front and not very elegant pants. The fabric choice was definitely all wrong on the pants:

Justin wins.

Gunnar v. Dmitry:

Gunnar:

It's nice. I don't much care for the feathers on the shoulders, but the lines are lovely.

I really didn't much care for this - I thought it, again, was a cliche. The middle was bunching, as well, but okay. I would have chosen Gunnar's over this. But Dmitry wins.

Benjamin v. Helen:

I really didn't know what to think of Helen's. In watching S4 the other day, there was one (losing) gown that looked like the model was pooping fabric, and that was what this was from the back. Not sure how "good" is associated with that fabric shelf:

Benjamin was clearly the winner. And, actually, this would have been my pick for the win:

Then there was Jay v. Samantha:

First Jay:

I mean, WTF with that feathery bosom square right smack in the middle? If Helen was dinged for the poofy shelf of fabric, this square of feathery WTF really should have lost points IMO:

Wow. Unfortunately, the losers ONLY came out of losing pairs, and Samantha's was clearly worse, and almost in direct contrast with the glittery jewely front:

Honestly, this would have been my pick for the loser. It's boring, and droopy and sad.

Then Sonjia v. Kate:

Kate's has interesting elements, especially the skirt, but the top is awful:

The winner is clearly Sonjia:

That would have been my pick for winner. So many interesting elements, fits beautifully and the outer skirt-shell is great, the top is just gorgeous.

Finally, Michelle v. Chris:

Again, this is another unfortunate pairing, because I would have put both in the bottom. Michelle's has nothing at all to recommend it up front:

And why is it sprouting wings out the back?

The judges rightfully knocked Chris for his fabric choice - stretchy fabric can't work with the cut-aways; it needs a much stiffer, stiffer presence. I did like the bottom of the skirt, and I think the line was good, but there had to be a loser and this was it:

And to be perfectly honest, I would have taken off major points for both of the models' hair. WTF.

I didn't much understand the judges picks: Dmitry for the win, Chris for the loser. I would have gone Sonjia/Samantha, but that's just me.

Also, please, no more pretentious non-fashion celeb teenagers. They're annoying.
