Project Runway second-to-last ep

Okay, so the finale happened! But first, we have to talk about the episode before it.

I’m happy to say the second-to-last episode was much better than the wedding challenge. Well, the runway that is. I was baffled as to how there was no product placement, or the show about Marilyn Monroe plug was on video and minimal. Huh. The designers were challenged to make an outfit that looks like a million dollars! On a smaller budget, still $500 each. Inspired by Marilyn Monroe. Or something.

But wait! Before we get to the runway and judging, Lassie - yes, Lassie the dog - runs in. Something about a movie. Or a show. Or something. The designers have to stop doing dresses and make a dog outfit. In an hour. With a theme. They all basically throw a tube of fabric around a dog and I don’t even remember who won because if anyone cares about this they can go and watch the ridiculousness and report back. The designers seemed to enjoy hanging out with the dogs, so fine. I'm going to pretend that didn't happen.

SO! One day to make a gown. The commentary by the designers is increasingly bitchy about each other, but the runway is pretty cool. Here's Alyssa introducing:

Okay, I get that pregnant ladies should be allowed to wear fashion, but this is gross. The bellybutton bulge is icky, sorry! but it is, and the fold in the purple fabric to accommodate the round neckline makes it look cheap up top. I do like the detailing of the pearls, and the sleeves are great. Should have tried a different neckline.

Onto the runway! In the order of my preference for the results:

Dmitry:

This is really gorgeous. He dyed the fringe in tea to get that color. It's trimmed with sparkly gold accents. In twelve hours! Wow.

Sonjia:

And a closer-up of that bow:

I like this; it’s clever. But I wish she had dropped that miniskirt to line the lace all the way to the bottom. And maybe it’s too clever?

Michelle:

It’s kind of obvious. It has a deep back and a chain where the tramp stamp goes. I like it, but it’s not my first choice at all.

Helen:

Helen called this “romantical.” Whatever, Helen, it’s boring.

Judging:

Sonjia: Isaac loved the runway, and loves this look. It feels dramatic and memorable. He likes midrife. Textile is great. The guest wanted the skirt longer. Georgina loves it, but there’s too much going on; it should be all about the statement bow.

Michelle: Alyssa doesn’t like the chain but the silhouette is beautiful. The guest thinks it’s a tad shear. Isaac like the shear. He likes the back. He doesn’t think it looks terribly expensive, though. G agrees with Isaac; because the cut is simple, so it draws the attention to the textile.

Helen: The guest doesn’t thinks it’s memorable, and the color is tough for other skin tones. Alyssa thinks it’s beautiful and classic; calls it playing it safe. G. thinks it’s too safe. Isaac loves the dress but it doesn’t move. No one calls it "romantical."

Dmitry: Alyssa says it blew her away and it’s her favorite look, EVER, in the history of All Stars. “It’s really f**ing beautiful.” Ha! The guest thinks it’s special. G. thinks the dress is red carpet ready. Effortless and great. Isaac agrees. This dress is “right there.”

Dmitry wins; yes, I would have been incredulous if he hadn't.

And, despite the fact that they seemed to like Michelle’s and used a lot of “safe” words with Helen, they boot Michelle. BOO. Oh, lord, I have to keep watching Helen and her nails of doom.

What did you all think?

Next up, the finale! I’ll get it posted, I promise!
