Chapter 1
---
“Hello?” Ryeowook answered his phone. He leaped right into Zhoumi’s room to retrieve his phone when he heard his ringtone go off. It was a loud squeaky ringtone from a cartoon. Heechul hated it and asked Ryeowook to change it the first time he heard it but since Henry loved the cartoon, he said he watched it since he was a kid, Ryeowook kept the ringtone. But he was always cautious to avoid letting Heechul hear it, scared that the man would throw his phone right out the apartment window.
“Kim Ryeowook-ssi?”
“Ah, yes. Youngwoon-hyungnim.”
“How’s the search going?” the man asked. Ryeowook raised his arm and looked at his watch; it was too late at night. It got Ryeowook curious if the man called Kim Kibum was any important person. He didn’t look like a fugitive or a killer or any crime offender to Ryeowook but he knew better than to judge a book by its cover. Zhoumi and Hangeng always told him that.
“I’m still working on it.” Ryeowook answered, looking at his laptop case which was on Zhoumi’s bed. He could imagine the file right in the bag; he would continue searching about the Kim Kibum guy later; after he took care of Heechul’s food.
“Okay, remember, his information can only and must only be known by me.” Kim Youngwoon reminded Ryeowook before he hung up.
Ryeowook stuffed his phone back into his pocket and got out of the room. He caught a glimpse of the guy’s profile who was asleep sitting next to the couch. Fair milky skin like Heechul-hyungie, he thought and went to the kitchen. He used the rice cooker to make porridge while he was cutting the ingredients for some light side-dishes. When he reached for the refrigerator to get the kimchi, only he realized, there was none.
He remembered that there was a lot more of those pickled kimchi in his fridge downstairs, Henry hardly touches them because he couldn’t handle spicy food and Ryeowook never ate much. He made sure nothing dangerous like the stove was still on and took off the apron, hung it properly and walked over to the living room where Heechul was.
When he saw that Heechul was still asleep, he just quietly glided to the door, cancelling his intention to let Heechul know he was going down to his apartment to get kimchi. Leaving just for a few minutes would just be fine; Hangeng was getting home soon anyways.
“Speaking of Hankyung-hyung…” he thought and pulled out his phone, dialing while pulling his shoes back on. He pressed his phone to his ears with his shoulder. It dialed through right when he opened the door. He heard a familiar ringtone that wasn’t his after the light beeping sound of the door alarm.
“Ah, hyung, I was just calling you.” He said and hung up, still pulling his shoes on properly. When he looked at Hankyung’s face, there was fear but Ryeowook didn’t quite register the look, probably shocked to see him. He told the older male that he was going to get kimchi from his apartment and would be right back.
---
Siwon took the opportunity to escape.
He could breathe again when he heard the sudden ring of a phone and the door opening; the door of which he was too afraid to open. As if it was fate, the door blocked his entire person, Siwon was sure that the cop could not see him entirely; his chance, an opportunity to escape from something he wasn’t even sure of. It wasn’t Ho-min because the man with the gun was a cop.
But he hesitated for one a split second; it was Heechul’s apartment after all. Which meant there could be a possibility that the one who opened the door was Heechul, the man he had been dying, not literally, to see so badly but wasn’t capable of. Some kind of underground-triad leader he was.
“Ah hyung I-”
No. It wasn’t Heechul, the voice was too high-pitched. Siwon remembered Heechul’s voice clearly, even the soft mumbles of Heechul during their late night internship shifts. The soft demanding complaints Heechul would whisper into Siwon’s ears just to disturb him. Siwon would grumble but never tried to peel off the arms that snaked around his waist from behind, Siwon liked the skin-ship no matter how annoying Heechul sometimes gotten.
Siwon took off and pushed the fire-escape door with one swift movement and ran down one floor before taking the elevator. He grabbed out his phone and dialed Eunhyuk’s number.
---
Hangeng quickly pulled the gun back behind him when he saw his apartment door open and at the same time his phone rang. He was lucky Ryeowook didn’t see him with the gun, he wouldn’t know what to explain, and his set plan of shooting a suspicious man went out the window when he saw Ryeowook.
He lost sight of Choi Siwon totally, the door being the shield just enough for the triad leader to flee.
Even so, he just nodded at whatever Ryeowook said. He turned around and watched Ryeowook walk into the elevator before turning around hoping to still see Choi Siwon still there. The chance was as thin as ice and Choi Siwon was not dumb enough to really stay there after being aimed with a gun for no known reason, not to Hangeng at least. Hangeng knew very well the reason why.
He ran to the emergency exit and looked down the flight of stairs. No footsteps, only the echoes of the door closing behind him. He hit the stair rail, cursing. The chance was gone, there was somewhat a relief in there, he wouldn’t need to lie to Heechul above all the lies of trying to kill Siwon because his parents were the reason he left China.
When he went back to the apartment, he swore, he heard the door alarm beep, as if someone just left. He knew the door was still open when he ran to the fire-escape; it wasn’t possible that the wind blew the door close because there were no windows around.
“I must be imagining things…” he told himself, seeing Choi Siwon and almost shooting him was too much to digest in one night.
And when he saw Heechul lying on the couch, looking pale and weak, he had forgotten everything, all that mattered was Heechul. He rushed over to him and knelt beside the couch. Hangeng took Heechul’s hand gently and shut his eyes tightly, trying to forget everything.
Forget what happened when he went to Zhoumi’s place when he was still a kid, forget the oath he made to himself the next morning when Zhoumi was hugging him, forget the reason he came to Korea and forget the investigation of Choi Siwon’s activities with the help of Yesung and forget the pain inflicted by his health to his body. He wanted to forget everything and remember only the happy memories that he, Heechul, Zhoumi, Ryeowook and Henry had. There were many happy memories and Hangeng wanted only those.
“I’m sorry…” he said subconsciously and Heechul heard, because he opened his eyes and looked at Hangeng whose eyes were shut.
“Hannie, why are you sorry?”
Hangeng opened his eyes, “For everything…,”
Heechul just smiled, “Silly thing. Where’s Bummie?”
“Heebum?” Hangeng asked; he had never heard Heechul call the feline Bummie but who else could Bummie be anyways, “he’s just right there…”
Heechul’s eyes followed where Hangeng’s were looking at, indeed the gray feline was curled up, asleep on the couch.
“Oh.” Heechul’s mouth formed a perfect O. ‘He must have left then’
“How are you feeling?”
“Like I rose from the dead. My body aches like a bitch.” Heechul groaned.
“Come on, you should sleep in bed, the couch’s not doing you any good.” Hangeng let go of Heechul’s hand and half stood. He bent forward and let Heechul hook his hands around his neck and Hangeng slid his hands underneath the bony frame, lifting him easily as if Heechul was a girl.
Heechul’s body was burning, if one degree higher, he would scald Hangeng easily, of course Hangeng’s mind was exaggerating. But it made Hangeng frown, at how weak the man was and at the light weight of his; Heechul was light but he must have lost more weight from all the work. He had been taking an awful lot of late shifts lately and Hangeng felt bad for not being there for him, even if it was just a few minutes in the morning before he headed to work.
Heechul would still be in bed, curled up right beside Hangeng. The Chinese male would sneak kisses and Heechul would wake up, a smile on his face and then snuggle closer, always luring Hangeng back to sleep and not to work. It almost worked; it always worked but Zhoumi was one rule-sticker! That man would start knocking the door if Hangeng wasn’t up and about getting ready for work when he was.
“Hannie-ah?”
“Yes?”
“I miss you.” Heechul whispered very softly, almost inaudible but Hangeng had sharp ears, he heard all three words.
“Huh?” Hangeng played along, pretending that he did not hear it like how Heechul wanted; Heechul had his own ego too.
Hangeng temporarily forgotten everything he wanted forgotten, Heechul was in his arm and he was home, he didn’t want anything else than just that.
---
Kibum was in the elevator, just a floor down, the elevator dinged and stopped. Just like when he ran out after the Ryeowook guy left. Kibum was careful and really quiet sneaking out, he didn’t want to tell Heechul he was leaving, it meant lying straight to his face and Kibum respected his hyung enough not to lie that way.
When he left, he heard a loud crashing sound from behind, from the fire-escape but he didn’t have time to go check that out. He was going to leave. His aim was to leave and he wondered why Siwon didn’t come right away hearing that Heechul was sick.
He checked his phone, there were no calls. Siwon didn’t call to check on Heechul like Kibum had expected. Maybe Siwon didn’t care for Heechul that much after all.
A man stepped in with a Tupperware in hand.
“Hyung, let Henry know I’m safe at home and I miss him already.” The man said into his phone, smiling. When he caught Kibum looking at him, Kibum just nodded and quickly but looked down. He recognized the voice and the name mentioned. Kibum knew the man in the elevator with him was the Ryeowook Heechul was talking to and Henry was the one which one of the Bailong dimwits shot.
“I’m heading down to get something from the front desk; they forgot to pass me some letters just now. Seriously hyung and I’m holding kimchi in my hands.” He complained and only made Kibum more uncomfortable.
Kibum closed his eyes and counted the seconds while listening to Ryeowook’s conversation with who seemed to be like one of the other roommate of Heechul.
It took 15 seconds, which felt like 15 hours before the elevator doors dinged open again. Ryeowook stepped out first, and Kibum followed close, but keeping a distance. When Ryeowook made a turn to the front desk, Kibum leaped away, aiming for the door and running across to his car which was parked in the visitors’ parking. Only when he was in his car, he felt safe. He quickly strapped on the seatbelts and started the car, revving out of the curb at instant.
---
“You’re heading out again, Hyukjae-ssi?” Shindong asked when he saw Eunhyuk getting into Siwon’s car in the parking lot.
“To meet a friend. Take good care of Siwon-ssi.” Eunhyuk flashed a gummy-smile and got into the car.
Eunhyuk just returned not long ago with an exhausted looking Siwon. Like Siwon had expected, the bodyguards didn’t say anything. It took Siwon a phone call to get the guards occupied for a while, at the same time Eunhyuk went to ‘get something’. Eunhyuk snuck Siwon back home. Along the way home, Siwon’s brows were knotted that Eunhyuk didn’t dare speak in the car. With a ‘thank you’ Siwon dragged himself into his room leaving the car keys to Eunhyuk.
He was quite bothered that Siwon was all gloomy and stressed. Eunhyuk understood that Siwon needed time to clear his head and he would let Siwon decided if he wants to tell him.
Eunhyuk took his phone out and dialed a number, “Donghae? I’m on my way.”
---
“Hyung, where’s Heechul-hyung?” Ryeowook asked when he returned to the apartment. He placed the kimchi on the counter and took one long whiff of what Hangeng was preparing.
“In his room, the couch will only give him a terrible backache. Did you take his temperature?”
“Ah, I forgot; sorry hyung.”
“It’s okay, can you take it now, the thermometer is in the medicine cabinet in our room.”
Ryeowook did as told, heading over to the shared room of Heechul and Hangeng. Quietly, he opened the door and saw Heechul lying in bed, neatly tucked in and Heebum was by the bed side. He tiptoed over to the bathroom and opened the medicine cabinet. There was a familiar medicine bottle beside the thermometer case. The same bottle he saw Hangeng took his medicine from; it was empty now and according to the label, the supposed date to get his new prescription was two weeks ago.
Ryeowook took the empty bottle and shoved it in his pocket, then the thermometer in hand. He headed over to Heechul and slowly tapped his shoulder. “Hyung, Hankyung-hyung wants me to take your temperature.”
Heechul groaned but opened his mouth.
After taking his temperature, Ryeowook got back to the kitchen. Hankyung was already scooping the porridge into a bowl and the tray looked pretty much arranged with small light side dishes. Ryeowook noticed Hankyung’s hand trembling when he was placing the bowl on the tray.
“Hyung, are you okay?” Ryeowook reached for Hankyung’s hand, holding it. Only when he looked up, he saw the paleness in Hangeng’s face. His face was as white as sheet and his skin cold.
“Hyung?”

The next day, Kyuhyun was more than eager to tag along with Sungmin.
“Kyu-ah, I’ll be out.” Sungmin told to Kyuhyun who was sitting in front of the computer, eyes glued to the screen of Starcraft world, he was filling is free time ‘beneficially’ according to him.
“I will be at the hospital.”
“Why?” Kyuhyun almost jumped out of his seat, “Are you hurt anywhere?”
“No, no, no. I’m just fine, Kyu.” Sungmin assured the dongsaeng who was living with him.
Kyuhyun was waiting for an answer.
“Because I didn’t get the chance to go visit Henry-ssi when he was admitted, and he’s getting discharged today, so I’m heading there.”
That’s how Kyuhyun ended up standing next to Sungmin in the hospital’s gift shop; Sungmin still contemplating either to get the pink teddy bear or a bunny. Kyuhyun already told him to get the bunny since Sungmin liked it a lot too and Kyuhyun always thought that whenever a person buys a present for another person, he should get what he would like too. That happened to be Sungmin’s problem; “Ah, Kyu, if I buy that, I’m scared I can’t let go. Serious, I mean, look at those cute eyes.”
“Why don’t you get both, one for Henry-ssi and one for yourself?”
Sungmin nodded, but his eyes spelt frustration, a dilemma. Kyuhyun fished the man’s wallet out from his back pocket and gave the shopkeeper one of his credit cards, “We’re taking two of these.”
“Kyu!” Sungmin squealed softly but didn’t reach to take his credit card back, which to Kyuhyun, was permission.
“Why did you even come with me?” Sungmin asked while they walked to the elevator, the nurse told them where Henry’s ward was; 6th floor. Sungmin seemed especially delighted, hugging the new pink bunny doll he bought while Kyuhyun seemed a little anxious. He was only hoping to see the brother of the boy Sungmin was visiting but now that the nurse told them that he was already with Henry in his ward, it made Kyuhyun’s heart beat faster.
“Kyuhyun?”
“Oh, just to visit the hospital.” He said, and right after the lamest excuse escaped his lips, he wanted to face-palm himself, 'What sort of excuse was that?'
“Ah, okay.” And Sungmin just accepted that as a reason to tag along, it made Kyuhyun wonder what he saw in the hyung of his.
---
“Are you sure about this?”
“I need a ride home no matter what and it’s your little brother who took away my ride.” Kyuhyun retorted.
“But, where is Sungmin-ssi taking him?”
“I don’t know, maybe just a ride and back to his place. Don’t worry too much; the doctor said it is okay for him to move around, he needs fresh air.”
“B-but…”
“Can you send me to Angel’s? I need to get something before going back.”
“Oh okay.” Zhoumi just agreed, reversing the car. Sungmin’s car was already out of the parking zone.
“So easy.” Kyuhyun chuckled and enjoyed the rest of the car ride home.

A/N : It took me forever but there was a sudden plot-twist after a late night chat with my sister. HAHA.
