No, my iBook was great, it NEVER had any overheating issues. The lady seemed totally stumped ... she checked my CPUs and asked if I had the most recent updates - everything was fine. It is insanely hot - not near the battery pack either. Last night I had a cold pack on it and it only lasted 30 minutes before the pack was warm.
oh, i'm pretty sure I know what it is, though I thought they told their people to stop doing it. guess not.
you ready for this: They applied the wrong amount of Thermal Grease. I don't know if they applied too little or too much, though the original complaints about apple involved too much. having the case get physically hot also makes me learn towards too much (too little would just burn out the CPU, because no heat would escape from it, whereas too much can lead to heat going all over the place)
If you google "thermal grease mac", you'll probably find a bunch of people complaining. it was the first big problem when the macbook & the macbook pro came out, and it turned out that apple was training ALL of the employees making ALL of their laptops wrong. they were even printing up bad instructions for thermal grease replacement (in case you have to replace your own CPU) in the owner's manuals.
