Oh my.

How could you even bear the thought of what you'd done, even accidentally, for the rest of your life? The poor girl! How awful.

It wouldn't surprise me if driving schools became mandatory. The poor girl.

Hmmm... I don't know! It seems that in the US it is REALLY easy to get a driving licence. Here in the UK, parents could teach their kids to drive, but because tests are so vigorous, you'd be unlikely to pass unless you had professional instruction.

But anyway, that's not really related. These sorts of stories are so sad. It would be the most awful burden to have to live with. The only thing that I think would be worse would be accidentally killing your child.

I can absolutely agree with making driving tests harder here. All I had to do to get my license was show I could work the ignition, blinkers, and wipers; drive in between some cones; make a left and a right hand turn; and parallel park in a space the size of a school bus! Pretty ridiculous. But I had a good teacher (my father is a police officer with plenty of experience on the road), so I can agree with not making driving school legally mandatory. I took driver's ed as well, and it was pretty much useless.

But that wouldn't really have helped this girl, as the event happened before she took a driver's test. It seems like one of those unavoidable tragedies - it wasn't the girl's fault (she didn't know what she was doing), it wasn't the mom's fault; it just happened. And I think that's what makes it worst of all - it's such a stupid, silly way for a person to die, and now the daughter has to live with it for the rest of her life.
