I'm a little anxious now: I just added some of my liberal ND theology friends to my facebook friends' list, and they don't know that I am conservative. They are very adamantly liberal, which is fine - many of my friends are liberal, and we get along great - but whenever they go on their anti-conservative bashes I usually don't say anything (I don' ( Read more... )

I have a lot of friends who are adamantly liberal, particularly from my old college. I think what will happen is that they will still accept you but be like "Oh, she's conservative?" and then make some exception that "every conservative is bad BUT Karen." Sort of like what some anti-catholics do to me when they find out I am catholic. :) "Oh, you're a catholic? Well, you must be the exception." :) hehe But you can't really escape their perception of conversatives if they are truly negative. I'm sure they won't alienate me, but I'm very sure their perceptions of me will change. We'll see, though, in how they treat me in the upcoming weeks! :)

"I think people thought it funny how into the game I get - here's this tiny little girl, who is reduced to tears when watching American Heart Association commericals, shouting "KILL HIM!" when the ND defense is about to make a tackle, or laughing with maniacal glee when one of their guys gets tackled."
Ha ha! But that's so endearing!

I've recently become acquainted with the philosophical term "genetic fallacy" defined as the belief that "a perceived defect in the origin of a claim or thing is taken to be evidence that discredits the claim or thing itself." Thus, person who label themselves with specific nomenclatures (liberal or conservative, Democrat or Republican) are either to be trusted entirely or not trusted at all according to the mental processes of the political extremist. I wonder how much of that blanket of mistrust, however, covers your more "moderate" political viewpoints ( ... )
