Re: Just curious...lady_morgaineFebruary 6 2006, 07:03:26 UTC
My family has absolutely no connection to Pittsburgh, but my dad has been a Steelers fan since childhood. (He told me once that it was because, as a kid, he really liked their team colors. :) ) Anyway, my dad's no fairweather fan - when he decides he likes a team, he likes them forever. So my brother and I just grew up as Pittsburgh fans because of him. {shrug} I figure that's as good a reason as any!

Provided you're not a fairweather fan. Being a lifelong Sox fan I can't tell you how irritated I am about the new Red Sox caps I see new Red Sox fans wearing. I'm half-tempted to walk up to them, ask "Who's number 8?" or "What's the Pesky Pole?" and take their cap if they don't know the answer.
Speaking of colors: All Pittsburgh pro sports teams have the same colors, the only city that can claim that.
I also, sometimes, feel sympathy for the other team, even when the Red Sox beat the Yankees in '04, I must admit, knowing so many Yankee fans at work, to having felt a fleeting sense of sympathy for them because I'd been in their seat plenty of times. Being from a family of Pats fans, however, I can't entirely begrudge the Steelers their victory, but I also do understand why Seattle fans are so upset.
Aw, thanks! That's very charitable of you. I, on the other hand, had no such kindness to share when Ohio State beat Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl, even though ND sucked in that game.
Most of the time, though, when my team wins, I do end up feeling bad for the losing team - I'm a softie like that. And when I saw the Seahawks looking so crushed, I did feel a few pangs of pity. So I'm sorry! The only time such a feeling failed to touch me was when Texas beat USC in the Rose Bowl. I felt absolutely no pity then. :)
