Angsty Vampires, Sexy Jesus, and Grad School

Twilight Series is the worst series ever. Bella is the most hateful character in all fiction. She's worse than Yelena. At least Yelena had some likeable qualities. Way to go Stephanie Meyer in making girls stupid, boy crazy, helpless, pathetic and co-dependent not to mention psycho. I hate myself for reading these books; I'm really ashamed. BUT I ( Read more... )

"Twilight Series is the worst series ever."
EVER?!...
As in all time?
No, i don't agree with that.
But I understand where you're coming from.

When my roommate last year first gave me the books I really looked down on them. But they are addictive. I hated Bella. I loved Jake. I'm still iffy with Edward. Sure they're sexy and angst-ridden.. but at what cost?
Eh. I see it like Sex & the City. I love it but I'd never make it too public. I, certainly, don't understand the mass craze about it.
All the same, I think they're well written enough for what they are. (People our age shouldn't be getting kicks from teen fiction, anyway. So they meet the age requirement quite well, I think.)
Better written than Harry Potter, at the very least.

Afterall, it isn't Ms.Meyer's fault for all the craziness that went down over the books. And there are 1000 stories out there with worse themes and ideals. So I don't think bashing her is the way to go about it. :/

And I refuse to see Hamlet 2. But it looked funny enough. ♥

I think "EVER" as in at least in my lifetime. I think HP is better written, but I'm rather biased and haven't looked at the books with as critical an eye as I have Twilight. I'm not gonna lie the books are addicting, but I hate myself for reading them. I hate the characters, but I'm one of those people who have to know how the story turns out even if it's a poorly written series. I do like Jake; he's the only redeeming character.

I think people our age can still get a kick out of teen fiction, so long as it's written well. I go back and read a lot of my favorite teen/ya fiction, when I need a comfort read. Like I said Meyer does well with teen angst and that appeals to a lot of people.

I love you and didn't mean to offend. ♥

I'm much the same way. That's why I kept on reading them. It's a love/hate relationship.

And I'm not offended at all. xD
I was just saying what I thought on the matter.. I'm sorry if it came out sounding that way. It wasn't intended to. I wrote it with a glib sort of tone in my head.. i don't think it always transfers, though.

No no. A teen fiction is the last thing we're going to have our first fight over. ha.
And I'm with you there, too!
Garth Nix's Sabriel is one of my favorite books, still.
I was just saying that if I were to pick it up now the styling wouldn't be meant for my age group, ya know? But I can still appreciate it.

Also, I didn't mean to insinuate Harry Potter was written horribly. It's just not the type of writing I go for.
I'm not a huge twilighter. I apologize for unknowingly playing the devil's advocate.
