Alright. Class got let out early because of a fire alarm, so whoo! Time to talk about the first episode of Kuroshitsuji 2. I think I'll split it up by character to make it neater.
...and yes, this has spoilers.
Wow. Just wow. The early trailers of Kuro2 did not do his true personality justice at all. The person who gave us the
Kuro2 screencaps mentioned something about the producers/executives/I-don't-know-who purposefully allowing Alois to be viewed as some frou-frou little boy in the trailers to surprise us. And hell if everybody wasn't surprised (and kind of pissed at the trolling, but moving on).
He is much more of a brat than Ciel ever could be-- in fact, he's nearly a tyrant. He almost enjoys being cruel. But at the same time he has a fragility that makes one pity him. There are so many facets to him that as a result, he ends up being a dangerous and delicious mix of deranged and bubbly, and if what people think is true about him being the villain opposite Ciel, then oh man. He's definitely going to be an awesome villain. Especially with Claude by his side.
His contract is on his tongue, apparently. And it appears to be able to disappear at will, ffff. I wager that this makes his contract with Claude (granted that Claude is a demon, I'm nearly 98% sure) only slightly weaker than Ciel's, but again, if Claude is the one who is at his side, who knows what he's capable of. I'm really pleased with my first impression of Alois. He is not a girly boy like we imagined him to be. He's dangerous and he isn't afraid to show that he is.
Claude, on the other hand, just cracks me up. He's entirely over the top. That tap dancing? That elaborate table making with the glasses catching at the end? How can I not crack up? Beneath his serious demeanor he probably has some sort of tiny, dramatic side to him that he indulges in every once in a while.
Other than this, I don't have much to say about Claude. He seems to be genuinely devoted to Alois-- as opposed to Sebastian's devotion through aesthetics (which might have changed in this season?! More on that later). He's entirely unfazed by Alois' cruelty, almost treating it like it's expected. He coddles him, almost.
The two of them kind of have that more intimate relationship, in that sense. They aren't afraid to touch each other and give the other more soft expressions than Sebastian and Ciel gave each other. Which is probably more fanservice, but I find it an interesting comparison to Sebastian and Ciel. Hell, probably the whole anime will be about the differences between the two masters and butlers.
Moving on to the new servants-- man, I miss the servantrio already. Poor Hannah gets an eye totally gored out thanks to Alois, and nobody seems to care much (that was so squicky for me btw D8). It's like Claude and the triplets are thinking "meh, the master is being grumpy today, we'll have to clean this up". She seems to be the only one fearful of what Alois can do.
...the triplets are delicious, but I would like them to do something soon. Or else they will just be robots.
Sebastian. Oh gods Sebastian. Give me a second to shiver and fangasm.
Okay, done.
Wow. When I saw the screencaps I knew it was him-- how could anyone mistake him? And what (or rather, who) he had in his suitcase...I was mind boggled. I didn't think that Sebastian and Ciel would be in the second season (mostly because of the troll trailers), and I was bracing myself for disappointment. Being able to watch the episode completely, though, helped to ease my fears. They are back and they are here to stay.
And man if it wasn't lovely and goose-bump inducing to see his face again. Like
sugarhugs said to me, it was so nice to see a living Sebastian.
He hasn't changed much, and for this I am eternally happy. That delicious smirk is still on his face, and he's still conniving as usual. Still hot as usual too, or else Alois wouldn't have been coming on to him, fffff. What has definitely changed is his motives. He has precious, precious cargo with him now, and he's going to take very risk he needs to to protect it. As a SebaCiel fan myself, I couldn't help but notice how deliberate his movements were to keep that suitcase unharmed. Like I mentioned before, this might be-- nay, it is-- an indication of how his feelings concerning Ciel have changed. It probably isn't romantic (though it might be implied, for fanservice's sake), but it most certainly means that Sebastian has some sort of invested interest to keep Ciel's corpse safe.
Or is it a true corpse? We can't know for sure if Sebastian really ate Ciel's soul. Ciel did die from, you know. Letting himself drop down X number of feet from the London Bridge into cold icy water, and while he was bleeding liters and liters of blood, too. So while he did die, there's a possibility that Sebastian didn't eat Ciel's soul. In fact, it's very likely, considering that Ciel is alive and moving in the preview for the second episode.
So then finally we come to Ciel. Er, I don't have much to say for Ciel either-- except that I'm glad that he's back. I wasn't expecting him to return so early-- I was at least thinking that Sebastian might take a few more episodes to get a few more magical items to revive him, you know, to allow Alois and Claude to get a little more background. I guess not. But I'm glad he's back.
Whew. Long entry is long. And will be even longer after this reflection and wibble time on a subject that I have sighed about before.
sugarhugs linked a thread from /a/ talking about the new episode, and against my better judgment, I clicked and read the comments. I'm very...disappointed? Disappointed and sad that so many people don't put much stock in the series, that they hated the first season, that they look down on the 'raging' fangirls for this series so much, that there's just so much negativity. I know there will be people who dislike, hate, or rage at any series, but I guess seeing it happen within my own favorite series hurts a little. It's a giant wake up call for me as far as that goes.
Yeah, I know. I should suck it up and wear my big girl pants. I'll stop making everyone gag with my crai moar woes. Hilda, we talked about this one time, and you told me it would probably be better if I stayed away from fandom. I know you're right now. I'm too sensitive to negative opinions. I always have been, actually.
...WOW this entry's mood just took a nose dive. Uh, I'll just wrap up by saying (again) that I love this series for better or worse, with or without fandom, and that the new season looks amazing so far-- I'll keep watching it to see how it goes.
I am a fangirl and I am proud of it.
