This is one of the things that I think is messed up with organized religion. If there was a Jesus, from what I was taught, he taught people humility, love, kindness, acceptance. So from that standpoint, which essay was correct? The second one ( ... )

I have a real problem with the hypocrisy of organized religion, as well. I do still hold my belief in God, but you know what, that's MY belief, MY faith, and I am certainly not going to force said beliefs on anyone or berate them for being or believing differently than me. That is the major problem with most religions. People are so busy worrying about looking for other people's flaws that they lose focus on what I think spirituality is really about, trying to become better than we are.

And hey, sweetie, if you are questioning, re-evaluating your beliefs, I think that's just something that's a part of being human, understanding who you are as a person. As for your friend who told you that you'd go to hell... wow. I mean, wow. *hugs* That's not a very supportive, friendly thing to say. I'm sure, maybe, this person was just worried for you, but still... Well anyway, sorry to go full-on religious-rant on you ^_~ I just found this bit on God hating gay people to be just so irritating.

Amen a thousand times over. Actually, in the Christian faith, that's the whole point of the Cross - we no longer need a High Priest to intercede for us with God, at least, not a human one. Jesus took over that role, and through him, a believer has access to the very throne of God. It's meant to be a personal, one-on-one relationship ( ... )

It's meant to be a personal, one-on-one relationship. Only God knows which hearts are His.

Exactly. ^__^

I cannot even begin to express how deeply I feel about this issue. I was raised in your typical Michigan-Christian family. Went to church every Sunday. Gave tithe, starting when I was old enough to know what a dollar was. I could, and probably still can, recite all the books of the bible backwards.

And, like many young people, I was taught that being gay was wrong, and that you went to hell for it. I was never homophobic, mind you. I had a lovely aunt who died just recently, who was a lesbian, and I loved her inspite of it. But now, several months later, as I reflect on my feelings for her, and for her life mate, I relaize that deep down, I loved them more for their courage to defy their upbrining and love one another ( ... )

I know, it's just... ARGH!! It's so frustrating. I hate that so many 'Christian' people REALLY believe that being gay is something that would send you straight to hell. It may not be something that is endorsed, per se, by the organized church, but not once (of the several times I have read the bible in its entirety) did I read that it was a 'condemning offense worthy of the fires of hell'. I just don't believe that it is. Love is love. Period.

“The LORD did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples; But wholely because the LORD loves you...” Deut. Chapter 7In other words, God loves not “because” of something, but simply just “because” He chooses to love us. None of us is perfect; we are human, after all. I have always believed we are loved by God, in spite of ourselves. I don't believe that a person who cannot love people for who they are, unconditionally, is truly a Christian. Not really. These are hateful and small-minded people, ( ... )

I completely agree with everything you just said. In fact, the verse you just quoted is a favorite of mine.

Also, thank you for the well-wishes concerning my own relationships. My family was unbelievably supportive- even my grandparants. And my friends- what few of them I have- are just as kind and loving. I wouldn't be half the person I am today if it wasn't for these people in my life.

It amazes me that people still have this ridiculous, archaic mindset that people will be punished for who they love. It amazes me even more that people like that can get in positions of power. I may not be gay, but I have an Uncle who is, and he's one of the funniest, most wordly guys I've met. The fact that anyone would condemn him for something so basic and unimportant is frightening. You would think there are bigger issues in the world.

I am also relatively certain that a law being broken in this case. You can't use religion as a basis for handing out grades. That's a personal bias which has no place in a classroom. Grades are based on your demonstration of understanding the curriculum. This teacher should be answering to her bosses.

Oh, I remember what I originally came here for. Might I be able to use that Greed Icon that says, "I know"?

I completely agree! And sure, go right ahead and use the icon. Glad you liked it so much! ^___^ Oh, in case you feel like crediting, it is my own icon. If not, well, it's no biggie. ^_~ Enjoy!
